I feel like any brand new city designed with cars in mind would be irresponsible. Walkable would be the goal.

It would depend on how you do it, but part of my suggestion is that we’re trying different things to see what actually happens. Science, Baby!

I’m thinking a fleet of electric, self-driving cars that can be called on demand when you need it. Owned by the city, but available to all citizens. Would this allow greater flexibility vs. a full-scale transit system? You could still have walkable neighborhoods, but use such cars for longer-distance travel, or if you have a lot of stuff to transport.

If I were to do this, part of the point would explicitly to do research into how people actually use such things, and what impact that has on their lives, the economy, the environment, and everything.

Of course, this is way too socialist for Trump Towns, but a man can dream, can’t he?

But as far as building new cities in undeveloped places out west, those have been proposed over and over again with nothing happening. There’s a reason those places are undeveloped and some pie-in-the-sky (or flying-car-in-the-sky) idealist is not going to change that.

I don’t understand how PAB can be a viable candidate. Biden beat him in 2020, and that was before the insurrection and his tax fraud not to mention the MaraLardo documents. Just overcharging the SS at his hotels would bring down anybody else. Then there are his deranged postings. All this should, in the real world, give his opponents unlimited ammo. We could even have competing cities with different philosophies, to see what works best. Have one focused on the “15 minute neighborhood”. Have one focused on well-designed mass transit options. Have one focused on self-driving cars. See which one works best, which one makes people happiest.

Yeah, it’s an interesting idea, but I can’t see any Republican, especially Donald Trump, following through and putting in the effort to make it actually work. Real cities have sewers, and potholes, and unemployment, and a few thousand other things that need to be managed by people who know what they’re doing.

I was at Disney World a few months ago. I went on the Carousel of Progress, and saw a model city. I like that retro-futurism, but there’s something frustrating about it, too. It’s easy to create a blueprint for a perfect city, if you just imagine all the problems away. Let Donald Trump try to build his utopia. The problems will start when the second person moves in.

That’s par for the course so far as Trump is concerned. How many times in 2016 did you find yourself thinking something along the lines of, “This is it. This has got to sink Trump, right?” From mocking a disabled reporter to talking smack about McCain getting captured it seemed as though he could say anything and his supporters did not care. It’s why even now I can’t count him out and have to accept there’s a chance he could be the next president.

The real point is that his supporters _love_ each outrage, and the more outrageous his statements, the better they’re received.

It’s not politics as an attempt to govern. It’s politics as a spectator sport version of pure unadulterated unabashed trolling.
