Gee, I just won tickets to see The Doors next week at Pine Knob. Has anyone seen or heard about this tour? Just wanted some feedback as to whether it’ll be worth it or not. Any Detroiters going? ---

I’ve heard about it. The guy who was lead singer for the Cult is going to be standing in for Jim Morrison, if I remember right. ---

The original drummer, John Densmore, isn’t touring with them either. He is suing them over it, as is Jim Morrison’s family. ---

(This suit was settled out of court.) Definitely some bad juju attached to this venture. ---

I think they’re calling themselves “Doors of the New Millenium” now. Good thing they changed/altered it, because any version of “The Doors” without Morrison - who, obviously, can’t rejoin ☹ - would be a travesty. Ian Ashbury is a weird choice for lead singer. I just can’t see him in the Morrison role. ---

And incidentally, they released two albums after Jim died, the half decent [Other Voices](http://www.robbykrieger.com/discography/othervoices.html) and the totally offbeat [Full Circle](http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Quarter/7055/covers/html/doors.htm). Neither could compare to when Jim was alive. Also, _An American Prayer_ was released in 1978, but that was just recorded poetry with a musical background. Great album, though. In case you didn’t know, I’m a bit of a fan. And these guys, well, I’m not really happy with Ray’s lifetime of cashing in on Jim, and I would tend to think that this iteration is lacking some of the magic and danger of the original group (not that I was alive back then, though). ---
