The eagle got a little too close.

I like your bad pictures! How awesome is that to have one visit your yard!?

I’m in south Texas, just outside of Houston, and we have/had a nesting pair near my home- a first in a very long time! I saw one of them when I was hiking a park near my home a couple of months ago. I tried to catch a picture, but it was just too far away to get a good picture. All I got was a lightly eagle shaped greyish blob. After asking around, I found that there are several Bald Eagles that have been spotted around the edges of Houston now.

This being Texas and all, we even made the news for this idiot who actually killed one with a pellet gun, leaving an orphaned chick. Eaglet orphaned after bald eagle mother killed doing well, group says

That’s one ugly baby! LOL! It was rescued and is being rehabbed now.

The person who shot the bird was young, 17, so they went easy on him. “The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service declined to prosecute (the person) because of his age, but Game Warden H. R. Volschenk of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department charged the minor with a Class A misdemeanor for hunting without a landowner’s consent. Game wardens also cited him for a Class C misdemeanor for the taking of a threatened species.”

As someone who occasionally works as a cinematographer, I am embarrassed by them!

It would be considerably more awesome if I didn’t worry about one carrying off Creamsicle. Granted, this one wasn’t very big; but still…

But yeah, we’re luck to live in an area that has interesting wildlife.

I have to say I’m a little envious of that eagle. I was paddling up Terrell Creek once, and could see the soles on the bottom. I’ve always wanted to taste one. (But I didn’t want to eat the eagle’s leavings.)

Our roomie walked out to discover one of the golden eagles that nested in our woods sitting on the chicken wire mesh roof to the chain link fenced in night chicken coop and yard … and being very grumpy he couldn’t get at the chickens that were cowering in the coop.
