Sunny day in Portland. We don’t get totality, but I totally don’t care about that. We’re going to an “eclipse brunch” at the neighbor’s house where we’ll take a dim view of each other around mid-morning. ---

**Duckster** , I heard Newport is completely fogged in but clear a mile inland, and Lincoln City has good visibility. You might not have to go to far if you’re still in the clouds. ---

Well, after all my dithering, I finally decided to just go for it. Kitted out the car and dog, was ready to leave at 2:00 a.m. and stake out some little spot in totality, even if only for a minute. Unfortunately, the day started yesterday with a little tickle in my throat, and by last night, it was full blown strep throat. I feel like crap, and instead of pushing up the road as I had planned, I’ll be fighting traffic (such as it is) to the Urgent Care right after totality occurs at my home. Can’t remember the last time I was sick, but this sure wasn’t the day for it. Happily, a friend with a cabin in New York right in the line of totality invited me to visit for the 2024 event. I’ll just have to hope for weather there as nice as it is here today. (Ssshhhhyyyyeeeaaaahhhh, right!!) ---

Lincoln City (outside of totality) is clear. US 97 in Central Oregon north of Redmond **is packed solid on the shoulders** as people have just pulled off of the road. State Patrol says it’s illegal, except in emergencies to do that. Not a cop in sight. Eclipse has started on Oregon coast. ---

Oregon coast looking good. Was overcast this morning but burned off during the hour. Nothing but blue sky now! 12 miles inland, 9:00am. I’m at about the 97% range. ---

Was just one faint wisp of cloud to be seen a couple hours ago when went went for our morning swim. Blue skies. HOT sun with not much of a breeze to cool things. Near Easley, SC. Really thinking I got lucky. A few days ago was looking a bit iffy for cloud cover. They are still calling this partly cloudy but I am very happy with the weather. And happy I got one of those spray bottles with a fan on it for each of us. Should be just the right amount of refreshment. Slather on the sunscreen and get out there folks! ---

As I mentioned in another thread, I decided to drive north from Lawrence KS (99.3% totality) to Atchison KS, which is in the totality band. Had no plan other than drive to Atchison and see what’s happening. I’m hanging out in the HS parking lot next to the football stadium, which has restrooms and concession stand open. Not too crowded here yet but I expect it to fill up as we get closer to eclipse time. The downside is, the weather sucks. It’s cloudy, it’s rained a few times, and there is a 30% chance of thunderstorms right around 1pm when we hit totality. So we’ll see how it goes. ---
