The economics of Pretty Woman

Yes, what else is a ho’s job but public relations and sales? Maybe a bit of Human Resources could be claimed as well

I suppose she could say that she was a chicken farmer.

“Public relations sales.”

If you say it slowly enough, they’ll assume there’s supposed to be a comma in there.

Especially the part where she gets all rightously indignant about being treated like a prostitute–but doesn’t actually offer to return the money she took for, you know, being a prostitute.

It’s almost as creepy as Tom Hanks putting independent bookstore owner Meg Ryan out of business while pretending to be some anonymous e-mail correspondent. Meg, baby, that’s not courting behavior, it’s called stalking and it’s creepy. Even I know that much.

Stranger

That’s an easy one. “I was married and a homemaker. It didn’t work out.” (Tragic look.) A gimme.

Sorry, I pulled that age out of my head, perhaps I should have mistrusted my always-fallible memory.

My only cite is Richard E Grant’s book With Nails, in which he mentions working in the studio next to where she’s filming Hook as Tinkerbell. I swear he says in there how sad he is that she’s making a comeback film at the age of 24, which I would have thought would make her 19 or 20 in PW. But I see from IMDB they were only 1 year apart and she made 5 films in 1990/1991! So maybe she was 22 or 23.
