Thia has given me a bright idea-how about burying Grandpa with his cell phone? that way, the relatives can get a quick message off , in case they need to remind the deceased of something pressing. And, in case the doctors screwed up 9and Grandpa was buried by mistke)-he can call to get the cemetary staff to release him!
I’m surprised no mention of the potential to have the potential victim hiding from the killer and all of a sudden BWOODLEEEDODEE…
Of course Jack Bauer could never survive without his SuperTreo.
As mentioned, the movie name is Cellular. I thought there were another few interesting parts in it, including a scene where the bad guys are trying to track down the male protagonist:
“Just look for the guy on his cell phone!”
sweeping shot of a dock full of people holding onto cell phones; cut to surreptitious protagonist wearing a hoodie and a hands-free headset
And then, the twist at the end…! After they’ve caught him and retrieved the incriminating tape from his possession, as they’re ready to off him, he holds up his phone to show a video recording of the tape’s material. Police sirens ensue! Not the best action flick, but it used its subject well, I think.
Maybe someone’s phone could get destroyed by the bad guy or circumstance, and they need to warn their friend that the killer is coming for them. Unable to find anyone who will let them use their phone, they come across a vendor selling prepaid cell phones ala the Bourne films.
I’ve been getting tri-mode phones for a while now. In New Mexico there is a lot of area with only analog coverage. I understand analog will soon be phased out. This will leave huge holes in the coverage. Plenty of space to put a plot into.
Also, a real life horror story from a few years ago:
Car crashes near four corners area. Occupants trapped in car. One of the passengers is conscious and has a cell phone. The area is analog only and the passenger doesn’t even know what highway they are on, so calls 911, but nobody knows where to send help. They all end up dead before they are found. This is from memory, but I think I have the basics right.
From Albuquerque, about three years ago:
Mentally unstable man walks into a motorcycle shop and empties a revolver into the two employees on duty. Lying on the floor bleeding, one of the employees calls 911. 911 operator keeps asking him for address, which he doesn’t know. Never asks who shot him, which he did know. Nut case is outside reloading while this is going on, walks back in and finishes him off. Police assume it is a routine robbery. Fast forward to later that evening. Two police officers arrive to take the nut case to mental hospital. He chats with them a while, says he is going to pack some clothes, comes out with a shotgun and kills the two cops. I’ve followed this pretty closely. I left out the first of the five murders, and a number of other details, but that is what happened.
And right there is Jeepers Creepers .
