Our mascot was a giant fish - a Carp, in honour of the school motto, Carpe Diem. Thank goodness our teams weren’t called that. They were the [schoolname]Men and [~]Women, which is quite a bit better. ---

Not mine, but back in Utah we had the Jordan Beet Diggers and the Farmers (I forget which school they belonged to) ---

Our big rival was Horace Greeley H.S., in Chappaqua, NY. They were The Quakers, so their mascot looked a lot like something that came off a box of oatmeal. Kinda tough to come up with good “fight” songs when you’re The Quakers. ---

Perhaps my favorite nearby school high school mascot in this area of Colorado is the Rocky Ford High School Meloneers named after watermelons grown in the area. Their mascot is actually a watermelon with legs, arms and eyes. (He is mostly laughed at by neighboring schools’ students). **BurnMeUp,** Colorado also has a Beetdigger (Brush High School from Brush, CO) and a Farmer, from Hohene High School in Hohene. I seem to remember schools in Western Kansas having a Gold Bug and a Lark as mascots. I’ve often wondered what Hooker High School in Hooker, OK has for a mascot. ---

Ours is the **Busy Beaver**. He is drawn on his haunches, with the far paw reaching up, but the other between his legs, getting busy I guess. ---

My old high school team name was the Crusaders. They didn’t, as far as I know, have a costumed mascot, but the logo was a mounted knight in full armor. Recently, a group of students are complaining about the racist and hateful team name and are petitioning to have it changed. Fuckwits. (I’ve always wanted to use that line, and it seems appropriate for these turkeys!) ---

The school I went to had a mascot named the “Red Raider.” That doesn’t _sound_ bad, but…well, [check out the mascot.](http://montasd.org/Default.htm) Political correctness has not yet reached my hometown. Nor has common sense. ---

My school didnt have a dressed-up mascot, but the logo and team names were the Pipers. The logo was a guy playing the bagpipes (and not very well drawn at that!) ---

Well, being hit by a stampede of pine or poison ivy leaves would kinda suck. But if they’re going to go with a Mother Nature motif, they should go with something with teeth, like a tiger or a monkfish or a lamprey. ---

We were the Earl Marriott Mariners. The logo was a ship’s wheel, which isn’t too bad, but our mascot was a seagull. People threw food at him, just like they did to real seagulls. ---
