My favorite of the good ol’ gut busting food was the enchirito. It will be interesting to see if taste matches memory. Different times, different places, but same old, now busted out gut.

Go in and order one every day. If it’s popular enough (and it is) they’ll bring it back to the menu, or at the very least make it a yearly thing like the McRib.

The Taco Bell closest to where I used to work would make an enchirito upon request most of the time, if you were dining in. That was nice.
I could get smothered burritos that way too.
Just as well I don’t work near there anymore, given how many of those items I could scarf.

Enchirito has meat in it and the sour cream wasn’t part of the original recipe. On account of, back then, they didn’t even HAVE sour cream at Taco Hell. Gods, I’m old.

@SmartAleq I’m old too. I remember Taco Bell in the late 1960’s. But I was referring to their smothered burrito dish, which isn’t bad, but is/was never as good as that enchirito, with its beefy goodness.

I live in a region blessed with Mexican restaurants and cost isn’t an issue anymore. That said, there are some abominations at Taco Bell that are a guilty pleasure like the crunchwraps. If an enchirito is just a wet burrito, I’m sure I can get better at a real Mexican restaurant.

It’s not, as noted above. They used to have enchiritos, which I miss terribly and am happy when they make them for me when I ask. They also used to have smothered burritos, not as good, but sometimes I just crave them, and am happy when they make them for me.

Ah, I must have missed that one. These days I only go to the Bell when my yearning for a Cheesy Gordita Crunch becomes insuperable. Afterward I always wonder why I bothered but the gut wants what the gut wants!

The original enchirito I think was made with a cornflour tortilla.
I’m not sure about that but it disappeared for a while in the 1990s. When they eventually brought it back it just didn’t taste right. And there were no olives.

@Elmer_J.Fudd the board’s been acting weird for me, in this thread. here’s a link to the posts in question. We must resolve this vital issue!
To get an enchirito these days, they build it from scratch, using ground beef, etc.
To get a smothered burrito these days, they take a bean burrito, dump red sauce, cheese, and sour cream on it
