Eggo - you will do fine. They are doing great things with prosthesis these days. My heart goes out to you during this time, I know it will not be easy. But you already know - you will be OK.
Your brother calling you a “gimp” reminds me of our family! That’s what we do with my sister - it amuses her. She calls herself a “pegleg” - she likes that. Hey - and “Cyborg” - that’s a good name too!
My sister had one fake leg with a “secret compartment”. She was able to bribe the fake-leg maker with a 5th of Scotch, and he put it in. It was cool. Maybe you can look into that!
I also sometimes do this “schtick” with my sister. I will “knock” on her fake leg, (it makes a noticable knocking sound) and then she says “Ouch! That hurts!” I guess you have to be there, but it’s funny, and especially surpises/amuses people who didn’t know about her leg. (We are just wicked, I know!)
One time my sister and I hiked up Sequoia National Park’s Moro Rock. It’s not a really scary or difficult hike, but it has a lot of uneven ground (you are climbing up a BIG ROCK, after all) and it is not easy for everyone. She happened to have a cast on her amputated leg at that time, (a big white cast, couldn’t hide it) and apparently she was a big “inspiration” to everyone who was balking at the hike. We’d hear them gasp when they saw her and say “Well, if she’s doing it, we sure will!”
I guess my point is - you’ll get around fine. You obviously have a great attitude, and a great spirit about you. Don’t discount the reality of many great travels in your future!
