It seems that Hostess was going to go down anyways, so negotiation would be pointless except to help out that local chapter. The only other explanation that made sense to me was that Hostess wasn’t actually on board with trying to negotiate in the first place, and just held firm on something they knew the union couldn’t support, just so they could make the union look bad. Remember, they’d already arranged to get all the money out for anyone who was important in the business, so tanking Hostess was already a done deal. ---
