For the record: I don’t surf, barely swim, have no use for the surfer lifestyle — I hate the word “dude.” Having said that, Endless Summer is one of the best damn films ever made, doubly so for being a documentary. It deserved Oscars. The sequel is 91% as good as the original. I shut up now. Dude.
If the endless summer becomes a climate reality, the saying “You should’ve been here yesterday!” will surely have a different meaning than it did in the film.
Hehehe, HEAR, HEAR! The soundtrack is gorgeous, and the narration is pretty great, too. When I was assistant manager at a video store, about ten percent of the time I’d pick it to put on the playback when it was my turn.
I spent a week in Costa Rica buying drinks for one of the Endless Summer surfers (Robert August) in exchange for stories. I own two of his boards. His secret for dealing with Winter temps was a little less ambitious than the OP’s; “knee paddle and don’t fall!”
Emphasis mine.
You mean the inclination of earths axis of rotation relative to the plane in which earth orbits the sun.
The wobble is just the fact that this angle of inclination changes very very slowly.
I suspect there’d be an increase in geologic activity both on the Moon and Earth. Also, it might affect the Earth’s magnetic field, as tidal forces can affect the flow of the liquid outer core.
Robert August boards were always known as high performance, high quality. Completely functional. I ran in a circle with some of Hynsons La Jolla characters, bought some boards from him. Lot of weird shit going on down there, (drugs) Not good. Great looks, but incorrect bottom curve etc. Not user friendly. (I had a rep as being able to ride anything, which is old way, his stuff was not easy)
The movie, 1964 or so, really sparked a whole generation of us. Still have the soundtrack in my older truck. (movie is free now on Prime)
Should have been here 10,000 years ago! Crowds were better!
As far as the OP goes, I always understood that on a non spinning planet, the sunny side would get crisped by the ultraviolet light and radiation etc? Probably some narrow band of life would exist.
It is not really that bad. If you read the link in my earlier post, you will find that weather patterns would be different, and relatively stable and constant (rather than seasonal), but not necessarily deadly.
Thank you! I will back up and read for comprehension. The words
“Endless Summer” are triggering to me!! (in a good way I guess) ![]()
