You can’t eat cake without something to wash it down. I’m getting thirsty here just thinking about cake. But not so with good pie! I love blueberry pie, with strawberry rhubarb running a close second. And there’s my mom’s fantastic pumpkin-pecan pie, and pistachio pie…Mmmmmn. When I was six, I asked for a blueberry pie instead of a birthday cake. I’ve been having the same each birthday ever since. But I have been disappointed by pies on occasion…some crazy, mentally challenged, and entirely misguided people think that pies should have a firm, dry filling. They’re so wrong. Pies should have runny, messy fillings. When you cut into a pie and remove a slice, it should be a challenge to do it neatly, and the rest of the pie filling should ooze over to take the place of its missing comrade. Some people (who often bake for health food stores) also think that crusts can be made without salt. Feh! Pies that are too firm, or pies with saltless crusts, are barely worth eating…they’re only marginally better than cake. ---

Like I always say at Thanksgiving… can I have a piece of both? Delicious, buttery Red Velvet Cake with rich cream cheese frosting… Dense dark chocolate cake with dark chocolate frosting so thick it’s almost like fudge… Classic white wedding cake with super-sugary frosting piled 2 inches thick with giant frosting roses… And on ALL of these… a CORNER piece of course so I can have the most frosting. But then there’s sweetly tart key lime pie… almost refreshing and nearly makes you think you’re sitting on a beach on the Keys… Hot apple pie drenched in cinnamon and vanilla ice cream, and as it melts mixing it all together to make an apple pie/ice cream soup… ---

I’m with BunnyGirl, Uke, and evilbeth. I’d rather have cheese and bread over either cake or pie any day. I just don’t dig sweet stuff. If I have room for dessert, I haven’t eaten enough dinner. ---

I have eaten chocolate cake every night(almost) for 20 years now. I rarely eat pie, but wehn I do, I prefer banana cream. ---

I would choose the cake, because I love chocolate. On the other hand, if I had to choose between white cake and chocolate pie, I would choose the pie. ---

Marie Antoinette said “Let them eat cake.” because “they” were soon going to be executed and she wanted them to suffer before they died. “A Pie in the face.” is a considered a bad thing these days because it’s a waste of a perfectly good pie. ---
