Curse you, Zhu Zhu Pets! I briefly considered them for #1, but I wondered if that fad wasn’t already played out. Then I remembered being at a party last Christmas where there were about a dozen kids, each playing the whole time with his or her own personal Nintendo DS and barely interacting with one another at all. So I figured, that’s gotta be the most popular toy, right? Right? ---
