I went to an Old Crow Medicine Show a couple of weeks ago. For those not in the know, OCMS is a bluegrass/americana band with modern sensibilities. Anyway, whilst I was “gettin down”, as it were, I remembered that great long lost dance move, the finger waggle. You know what I’m talkin’ about. Index finger pointed out, head down, and just waggle that finger while you trot back and forth. Classic. But I need new ways to get down (or get up, get on up-ah, depending on the circumstance). And here I enlist the dork brigade to help me liven up my act. What’s your favorite antiquated dance move? ---

I’m not an expert on antiquated dance moves, but if you want strange dance moves, search for “haruhi suzuymia dance” on Youtube 🙂 ---

Some of my friends do this one where you get two guys, face opposite directions, hook your arms together, then spin around as fast as possible while yelling loudly. ---

There’s also the hand wave, where you wave your open hand in much the same fashion as the finger waggle, all while shaking your stuff in an appropriate manner. And don’t forget that move where you put your hands on the opposite knees and switch them while moving your knees in and out. I’ve actually never seen the “Finger Waggle” on a dance floor. I have seen it done extremely effectively at a bikini contest at the Rosarito Beach Hotel where the crowd was screaming “Show us your tits!”. She was being very coy about the whole thing, but eventually succumbed to the crowd’s fervor.
