My issue was always why they were in _any_ alley. Okay, they left the Fleidermaus early because little Bruce was scared, making him more guilty because it’s his fault they were there. (though in Miller’s version they left the Mark of Zorro, and his guilt came from having enjoyed himself so much just before things went south). But why slip out the back into some garbage-strewn crime-ridden alley? Wearing tuxes, pearls and other _accoutrements_ that fairly scream “Rob us!” And whatever the origins of the name, the people of Gotham knew it was Crime Alley. Chicago’s often know jack-all about St. Frances X. Cabrini but they knew to avoid Cabrini Green. ---

The name Crime Alley was given to the location _as a result_ of the Waynes’ murders, _not before_. Then it was Park Row (Not Crimea Lane) in a fashionable part of Gotham, now it is Crime Alley in a nasty part of a crime ridden city.
