The Scooby Doo remake, with the same characters altered somewhat, is also pretty good. The writing is clever, and the art is nice. Personally, I like the strangeness in seeing the “same” characters made strange and new again. Purists, obviously, will not appreciate the spin. (I like the way you can’t see Velma’s eyes behind her glasses. That makes her wonderfully alien, “other,” and eerie.) ---

I think reimagining is a great idea and it’s perfect for the periodical magazine format, which constantly needs new material but doesn’t have the production and marketing costs of motion pictures and television. I think it’s a good idea even if any particular attempt fails because in comics it doesn’t disincentivize future attempts. ---
