The Flying Dream-What Is Its Significance?

I had it last night-wonderful! I was soaring over mountains, lakes and the beach. I had perfect control-I could move fast, or hover over anything I wished to. Why do humans have this dream, and what does it signify?

I dunno - do dreams have to “signify” something?

I like that sort of flying dream. It’s all about freedom and joy and stuff. Much better than the flying dreams involving out-of-control falling, lots of screaming, and sudden abrupt stops, with flames.

Primal memories, of when our evolutionary ancestors swam through the sea.

Just translate this meme into a non-aquatic version, & you got flying.

IMHO, that is.

In my version of the flying dream, flying is a clever trick that I’ve worked out. It takes enormous effort and allows me to glide along about one or two feet above the ground.

What do you suppose that signifies?

“Soaring over mountains and lakes.” Grrr.

Weird, that’s exactly how it is for me too!

In my dreams, though, no one will believe I can do it, and if I try to demonstrate, something always goes wrong. :smack:

What does it mean to you?

Symbols mean different things to all of us. For me, a dream of spiders is about a certain ex girlfriend.

Flying dreams (which for me involve bat wings and are unlike swimming) mean something else.

Levitation dreams have a different significance.

I dunno either, but sometimes they do. When I was skydiving I used to have dreams about going in. No pain or fear, but my body would stop and I’d keep going; and in my first year or 2 of sobriety I had drinking dreams, haven’t had those in a long time.

I wish I had dreams of flying, grumble
