Heh, that was my thought process as well : “Napoleon ! No, wait, he was Corsican, so… no ! wait ! The average American doesn’t know/doesn’t make the distinction ! Napoleon it is”

Looks like I was right too. Sarkozy (my alternate) would have been a real poor choice

I’m kinda bummed the French & Indian wars aren’t racking more votes - I figured, since it’s part of American history and all, more of you would have picked it over the 1870 war which was definitely a Franco-French business with little impact outside the country (well, apart from setting the stage for the Great one, of course)

Kobal2 is #50. Sorry, sisu, only 50 entries per game. (Next time, read the rules about formatting.)

I’ll get this scored tomorrow.

I wonder why France questions filled up faster than London? Is the subject that much easier? Hmm…

I picked Vietnam because I thought it would be the most familiar to Americans. I forgot about the French and Indian war because that’s supposed to be called the seven years war, dammit!

That’s one proufoundly dumb sentence, Savoy belonged to the Italians for centuries, Alsace and Lorraine both have substantial German speakers, Brittany is a celt region, part of France’s southwest is Basque land. I guess all people of those regions should be permanently discarded from France’s history. Sorry folks, NDP has so decided, you werent French enough for him.
The Vichy regime is looking for some overzealous civil servants, maybe you should apply.

I’m sorry if I inadvertantly offended you but there’s no need for you to quasi-Godwin this thread. I was taking into account the fact Corsica wasn’t incorporated into France until 1770 (after a short time as an republic) and has its own language and culture. I wasn’t trying to “ethnically cleanse” French history of people who “weren’t French enough” like the Bretons and the Basque.

I knew Napoleon was Corsican. But I figured de Gaulle was Flemish, Charlemagne was Belgian, and Jean-Luc Godard was Swiss, so why make an issue of it?

True, but David himself was a complete dick.

So of course I picked him!

Bolding mine.

Point taken, if I see someone mentioning Martin Luther King was too black to be considered part of American history, I’ll refrain from harping back. Thx for the clarification.

Oh, be my guest, go for the throat. But in the proper way and the proper place, that’s all.

I think Vietnam and French Indochina should count as the same answer for #6.

I’m actually of French ancestry if you go back far enough, so obviously I should’ve disqualified myself from playing. 49th place? Sheesh!

50th place! Merde!

Also I think “French kiss” and “French kissing” should be the same. With those two small changes I will probably still be 38th if not worse.

Seriously, what is this spell that Monet has over people?
