A girl I went to high school with- Charity Muff. A guy my dad went to high school with- Peter Rabbit. I think there used to be a surfboard shaper around here named Dick Held. :eek: 🆒 ETA- just remembered, twin boys a couple of years ahead of me in high school- Jingle and Jolly. Swear to God, you could check the yearbook… ---

Their license plate frames were a reliable source of amusement for the local schoolkids (and I admit I still chuckle when I see them). They’d have the city on the top and then “Butts” on the bottom, so, for example, “Monterey Butts.” There’s also H. E. Butt, the grocery store guy (I noticed they call them “HEB” now–good call!) ---

I knew someone named Vinyl (pronounced Vin-yell), the result of what I can only assume was a tragic burst of misguided elegance on her mom’s part. I also knew an older man whose middle name was Sweetpea. Both of these are more odd than funny, which also applies to the people themselves. A friend of mine had a grandmother whose legal name was Zany Alice. ---

One I can vouch to that others have mentioned already - my sister-in-law’s father is named Richard Head. Goes by Richard. Good guy. My girlfriend worked with a girl whose first name was Chevron (pronounced Shuh-vrahn). I made sure to ask her regularly if she also worked with Shell or Mobil. ---

I’ve met a Finnish woman named Anu Saukko. “Aukko” meaning “opening” or “hole” and…well, yeah. (Anu and Saukko by themselves are merely poor victims in this, being a common female first name and Finnish for “otter” respectively.) Additional hilarity can be gleaned from the (hopefully totally) imaginary male equivalent Per Saukko, which means basically the exact same thing. I went to school with Chastity W., who was a total slut. ---

I used to have a friend named Rose Bush, married name I had a dr named Dr Bury ( think it rhymed with hurry) there are commercials here for a urologist named Dr Cummings, and while I was checking the spelling of his name found a urologist named Dr Beers oh, and we have a news caster with an unusual but I think pretty name: Bisi Onile Ere ---
