# The Gadhafi conundrum:  Trial for his killers?

I’m not sure there is any law under which they can be charged. What happened was essentially a revolution. Arguably, there was no law in existence at the time of the alleged crime. My understanding is that Libya intends to set up a new legal system–unfortunately, one which will be based on [Shariah law](http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2011/10/24/libya-sharia-law.html). I have no idea how Libya views the matter, but I have a real problem with prosecuting someone under a law that took effect after the alleged crime was committed.
