More often then not if you just go in and say “Hey, get gas here every week, can you turn on the air” they can turn it on, for free, from inside. If they say no, and you hate the capitalist pig dogs that much then say “then I’ll start tanking up every week somewhere else” and do it.
But, you do realize that machine isn’t free right? Maybe it broke and they just spend $250 getting it repaired and decided that it’s just not worth it for it to be free considering how many people just get free air and drive off.

Quik Trip air is free in these parts.
A lot of places charge a quarter, though. I don’t know for how much air.

This. I always keep a 12V (cigarette lighter plug) compressor in any car I drive. I’ve helped out so many friends/family with it that many of them immediately saw the utility and got their own. ($15 - $20 at Walmart… don’t get the puniest/cheapest one, or else they lack power and take forever.)
I also always carry a simple tire plug kit, jumper cables, and a small (old-school!) plastic gas canister. With those simple and basic implements, I have been able to save myself, friends/family, and sometimes complete strangers, a lot of time, money and frustration.

I think air and/or water is 75 cents at my gas station. There’s a free one somewhere in town, but I forget where, and to save 75 cents, I’m not going to start a search.
