My mistake. I thought that your seeing the OSP shut down had lead to visions of little bluebirds flitting about, tweeting over the tombstones of the people for a new american century. No doubt that’s a _lovely_ image, but a tad oversunny. By all means carry on with your optimism _within reason_ 🙂

I would hardly call it a revelation, more like an evolution.

I agree with what he did in Iraq, though he is responsible for his failing in how he did it.

I am horribly dismayed by the drug plan, and not to keen on his pandering to the more frightening of religious extremists.

Still, Bush represents my interests and beleifs better than most of the Democratic candidates.

No offense, but y’all aren’t fielding much for a centrist Republican with progressive social leanings. The only candidate who I personally respect and whose viewpoints I identify with and who I believe merits recognition for his substance is Leiberman.

If he gets the nomination he will get my vote unless he was to do something to lose it between now and election day.

Why can’t you guys get Bill Bradley to run?

You guys crack me up, really. 😃

It’s not just crazy milroyj who wants the President re-elected, it’s roundabout half of the people who will actually wind up voting. That’s kinda the way it works here. And why would we want a different Republican next year? We like this one. Those tax-cuts that were so derided? Doing a bang-up job now that they’ve had a chance to kick in. 8.2% GDP growth in the 3rd quarter, consumer confidence is way up (conveniently, right before the all-important holiday shopping season), and employment has or will begin to rise again. Iraq (and all of the screaming about it) is a mere sideshow.

Make fun all you want in the meanwhile, but let’s talk again on November 3rd, 2004.

This baffles me. If you understand and seem to acknowledge that he sold you a bill of goods wrt Iraq, how on earth can you trust **anything** else from this individual?

Do you have any appreciation for the level of real fear that this mother of a 19 year old male has? 2 years ago, I’d have thought it laughable to believe that the draft could be re-enacted. I’m not certain at all today. and, of course, since Viet Nam, they’ve done away w/ college deferments and deferments for only sons.

We’re so deep in shit in Iraq now, even if we had sane, rational people leading us now, I’m not sure when we’d be able to safely leave. We’re routinely deploying our National Guard troops (who, ISTM, have traditionally been reserved for domestic situations and pretty short foreign deployments), and stretched pretty damn thin. THink recruitments going well now??

On balance of seriousness of fuck ups and things that will take us decades to recover from, I can’t see anything that this man has done to balance out the harm he’s done our country, our sons and daughters, our international reputation.

what on earth do you find so important that you agree w/him on, that outweighs the magnitude of this fuck up?

I would vote for people that I had little in common with before I would vote for someone who _fucking lied straight to my face_.

This is what confuses me.

I’m a left wing bastard and I had no problems with Afghanistan. Maybe with how it’s now being handled but the reason to go into that country was good AFAIC. I’m no pacifist. It is worth noting that the majority of the world didn’t have a problem with it either. In fact a lot of them helped.

That’s were me and you differ. If the leader of my country who I agreed with 100% on domestic policy got my country into a **war** on false pretences I’d want him and his admin gone. Jesus Christ man are you that selfish?

Seriously I just don’t get it. Going to war is the most serious thing a leader can do. If they have been proven to be lying about something that serious they **have to go** IMO no matter how much I agree with their tax breaks.

Am I wrong here? That’s a serious question BTW. Humanitarian reasons my bollocks, Rwanda had one of the greatest humanitarian reasons for intervention of my lifetime(32 years old) and to the western worlds shame (including my country) we let in happen. This war was sold on lies. **You** were lied to about the most serious things and you care nothing about it.

Here in lies the true irony. I reckon that in the very near future, in fact it’s starting to happen already, that a lot of the war mongers will be calling for early withdrawal because of financial/domestic reasons and the “bleeding hearts” anti- war “traitors” will be calling for the troops to remain.

Maddening, truly maddening.

**Airman** has a darned good point there. The _nature_ of the lie plays a large role in how offended people get about it.

For the people who have never had to fight for their freedom, it’s easy to get indignant about being shuffled into a war by deceit.

For the people who have never had a blow job, it’s easy to get angry about someone else getting one and not bragging about it.

I note your sarcasm there, **Sofa King**. Still, when someone says something as cut-and-dried as **World Eater** did, it’s not an unreasonable question.

He said nothing about magnitude or consequences. He said that he couldn’t vote for a liar, which Clinton demonstrably was.

Of course, I could be completely misinterpreting what you said, since it isn’t exactly clear what you mean.

**Airman** , despite my cynicism, I really do think you have an excellent point.

I certainly voted for Bill Clinton although he was under the shroud of allegations of personal unfaithfulness. Clinton, I thought (and still think), was the best guy available for that time and place.

But coming in a close second to that was the absolute certitude that the people the other guys were putting up were masking a social and geopolitical agenda which I could not possibly agree with. And now that I have nearly three years of empirical evidence to mull over, I’m damned convinced I was right about that, too.

You didn’t bring that up the dicey subject of moral equivalence, so I’ll try to stay away from it, too.
