You play for shotgun? You just gotta call it.
And it’s definitely one, two, go. I’ve never seen anyone play it any other way. And if I did, I would likely look at them as a freak. Or a cheater.

We always played it as saying “Rocks, Paper, Scissors”, then throw, or three pumps then throw. I’m guessing us here in Maryland are the only ones who know how to play.

Anybody ever throw dynamite into the mix? It was a thumbs up.
Dynamite beats rock because it blows it up
Likewise for paper
Scissors beats dynamite because it cuts the fuse
Did that as a kid, but never saw dynamite used since.

Hehe, nice title…
We always play two pumps, then go in the third. But if the other person wants three, i’m flexible.
On a side note, i played this game with my buddy the other day to see who would go first at pool and it went something like this:
Me: Rock Him: Rock
----Try again----
Me: Paper Him: Paper
----Try again----
Me: Rock Him: Rock
Etc…
This went on for 8 trys!
I’ve started to think that people who say we hang out together too much are right!

As a regular Rock Paper Scissors player I have to say that the standard playing of RPS means one two go (aka go _on_ three).
I role play you see and RPS is used for any conflict to see whether you win or lose (basically, also based somewhat on abilities depending on ties and if you are exceptionally strong the bomb comes into play). In a crowd of about 60 some players this is how we **all** play.

This is too funny. My friends and I had this conversation just last weekend. It came up when he and I did Rock Paper Scissors. I can’t remember what for though. It was at a bar, must have been about who would buy the next round.
But he did one, two, show, and I did one, two, three show. Sadly, I’d already decided what I was going to show before I saw what he was showing, so I still lost. 🙂
We did a poll among our friends, and 8 of them did 2 pumps, and 2 of us did 3 pumps. So, I’m afraid I can’t add much to the discussion, other than to say, _I_ think it’s three, and the controversy is much more widespread than I’d originally thought.

I believe that you “two-pumpers” are missing the symbolism of the three prime shots. The name of the game is not _Rock Paper_ nor _Rock Paperscissors_ nor _Rockpaper Scissors_ nor any other combination of only two words. The three pumps represent the three objects from which you may choose. Thus, I am left with the assumption that those of you who miss that deep symbolism are not only spiritually and philosophically shallow and devoid of any positive human characteristics, but that you are also likely morally corrupt. I am wondering whether it is the “flexible morals” of those who neglect the third prime throw that are leading to the downfall of our society.

There’s a simple way to fix this. We say “Rock, Scissors, Paper, _Shoot_” One pumps on Rock, Paper, and Scissors (three pumps in _toto_), and then shoots on Shoot. I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t misunderstand that.

Thanks, **Super Gnat** , but the problem was not with understanding the rules, but failure to recognize the correct way to perform the “priming”.
FWIW, the rules guide at [The World RPS Society](http://www.worldrps.com/gbasics.html#Rules) does not state whether the correct number of “primes” is two or three and even goes so far as to state that either are acceptable. As far as I’m concerned, this does not indicate acceptability of only a two-pump setup, but was simply done to appease the militant two-pumpers. Sort of like how governments will throw special interest groups a bone now and then just to shut them up.
