I opened my Netflix disk today and had a WTF moment. The disk looked like a pirated DVD with a handwritten label. I was about to send a nasty gram to Netflix, but I checked on the internet and found out that they all look like that. I guess it was some sort of marketing gimmick. Apparently a lot of people that bought it on Amazon are pissed and are returning them. Heh, that’s clever, I like that. (and the “Magda 32016” under the Sony logo.) I can’t believe people are returning them because they don’t like how the DVD looks. ---

The Borat DVD was made to look like a pirated copy, IIRC. ---

I just got the Magda 32016 reference. 🙂 From what I read, people who are buying it for rental or resale are worried that their customers will think that they are getting pirated copies. ---

I fell for this yesterday, took it back to the store I bought it from to exchange for a “real” copy. The clerks, the cashier, everyone fell for it. Processed a full exchange. Fortunately, I looked at the replacement before I left. Then the penny dropped. Thanks, thwartme ---

I think it’s neat. It is kind of a shame they did it too well. The complaints will discourage this kind of thing. ---

Everybody failed to completely overlook the huge “R” rating, the DVD Video and MPAA logos, the small print or the fact that the writing doesn’t actually look like magic marker? ---
