The Naked Gun comes to mind, with the police car going through a house, a women’s locker room, and a rollercoaster before coming to a stop at a donut shop.
I always thought the title sequence for Firefly perfectly captured the spirit of the series.
It really is more of a Western than sci-fi.
Opening and closing credits for “Brain Donors”. Great Claymation.
I love the credits at the start of the first Deadpool movie, but the best outro song goes to Lovecraft Country.
By far the winner of the contest. Quick cuts, fisheye lens, jet travel, wahinis, action, zooms, beauty shots of Hawaii, mysterious ziz zag neon
. The theme should be the real American national anthem.
My vote independent of that would be Mission Impossible. The relentless pulse of 5/4 time, the fuse leading the action, plus scenes from that particular episode (something hardly any show ever did). Space 1999 obviously took lessons from MI for its credits. And UFO! Oh my another fine example.
The animated opening credits to Honey, I Shrunk the Kids manage to tell a more interesting shrunken-kids story than the actual movie.
Airwolf if you know what I am talking about you can hum along though you haven’t heard the song in 30 years.
The opening credit for Miami Vice were similarly iconic.
Indeed. And really gave the tone of the show, with the 80s pastels and more laid back attitude.
Except for the violence, and the Bren 10, and the viking bikers from hell. ![]()
No love for Batman?
Star Wars is a big classic but I love the subtlety of Alien, those letters gradually and horrifically coming into resolution:
First thing that popped into my head was the title sequence to the original *Magnum PI". Catchy music, great scenes, etc… that gives you a pretty good idea of what the show’s going to be about and who’s in it.
Then I realized that Hawaii-Five-O had already done it a couple of decades earlier. (and an hour later in fact!)
The posters not voting for this have been sacked.
As far as films, sitting through the opening titles of Superman: The Movie (1978) I felt like I had already gotten my money’s worth.
I like the postcard montage at the beginning of National Lampoon’s Vacation. Something about it just epitomizes the American road trip – the open road, classic motels, and kitschy roadside tourist attractions.
Pink Panther
For movies I’ll propose Monty Python’s Life of Brian - primo Terry Gilliam:
For closing movie credits (listing everyone down to the caterer’s dogs), I’ll have to go with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
