Finally! The first “hint” of spring arrived in my armpit city in Northern Alberta. The Canada Geese have returned! With temperatures in the -30 range just last week, this is the best and first sign of spring this year (well, in addition to it actually getting over 0 yesterday) THANKS GOD! The first few months of this year have been damn AWFUL for weather! Come ooooon… SPRING! ---

Yes, I was doing some yard work on Saturday to clean up the aftermath of the huge storm and while I was out I saw two different flocks of geese headed north. It is a fine sight. ---

Anyone who loves Canadian Geese doesn’t have to deal with them year round. As mentioned before, there’s the shit everywhere in all the parks. There’s also breeding season where they try to attack anyone in the vicinity. And you can’t grab them and eat them. No fun at all. ---

I live smack in the middle of the Eastern Flyway. I don’t mind the transient nature of the things, really. They’re generally just here for a week or so twice a year. However, I do have a few complaints: Please stay down in that swampy area. You’re scaring the neighborhood dogs. My plate-glass sliding door is not a rival man-goose. Please stop pecking at it. I’m trying to go to work, dammit. Honk and flail all you want, I’m still getting in this truck and going to work. If you don’t get out of the way, I will run you over. In my mind, you’re just a squirrel with wings. Stop it with the wing-bashing and the beak-biting already. That hurts. How long is it until it’s legal for me to shoot you again? Late September? October? Screw it. How about if I shoot you now? That way, neither one of us has to wait. Stop making my backyard all “greasy.” Okay, I’m done. Everybody else can bitch about the geese now. I’m thinking about investing in a couple of swans. ---

There is a difference between Canada Geese and Canadian Geese. Canada geese are grey with white bellies and black heads. There are over 20 varieties of Canada Goose. A Canadian goose is any goose which claims Canadian citizenship. Canada geese leave the big turds on your lawn. Snow geese poop while flying, and they’re just like other white liquidy bird craps. Only bigger. Much bigger. You might want to shut me up now. Don’t get me started on Canada goose lore. ---
