This dates back to a contention by Opal that two items do not constitute a list, which led people who were listing two things to include “3) Hi Opal!” as item three to satisfy her requirement. It later was corrupted into making an Opal reference the third item regardless of the overall length of the list. This explanation was explained by someone describing himself with a word that he isn’t sure exists, the Pedanticist! ---
