I would like to nominate [Point Beer](http://www.pointbeer.com/) from Stevens Point, WI. $5 for a case of returnable bottles during my college days.

Sure, it tastes like peanut butter, but $5 a case!
I mean, BLATZ?! STROH’S?! God! I’m in love. I think I need to find some “Pearl Light,” which, while I’ve never had it, it can’t possibly be anything but Crappy Beer. It has the Crappy Beer-en-est name ever.
Oh, no. No, no. Don’t do it. Fun is fun and jokes are jokes, but don’t drink Pearl Light. Seriously. It would have to improve geometrically to rate as “crappy.”

Here’s to Pearl and Rolling Rock. Dollar Pearl Ladies Night at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, especially. And a fridge full of cold RR, a hammock, and a good book summer evenings when the yardwork is all done.

Oh, I’ll be ordering Pearl next time I’m in Texas. I honestly can’t think of a beer so Crappy (big “C”) that it would actually be crappy (little “c”). I’m more than willing to be proven wrong.

I’ll get the ‘Winter Ale’ or whatever when my Wife and I go to a brew pub. But for every day beer, at home. Keystone Light. Coors Light in a blue can.

I was raised on Miller Lite. My older brothers roomate was a distributer for Miller. So it was not cheap. It was free.

I think Grain Belt had extra salt.
When I went to a little cow college midway between Chicago and Minneapolis, we’d start out by pampering ourselves with a few Grain Belts, then when our palettes were deadened switch to the cheaper Fox Deluxe.

I know PBR is the king of cheap beer, and Old Milwaukee is made from mop-wringings at the PBR brewery, but isn’t the classic nexus of tastes bad/bad taste **Rheingold**?

Huh. My mileage varies. I find most IPAs numbingly hoppy and bitter.

Anyway, my nominee for The Great Crappy Beer Appreciation Thread: **Sol.** If you think Corona is skunky, corny and generally foul, pick up one of these!

Also, _any_ malt liquor. They don’t call that shit “liquid crack” for nothin’.

Resch’s Dinner Ale

DA, I salute you. You make me feel like a 1940s/1950s office worker stopping off at the pub before going home to the missus for lamb chops and three vegies. You are old guys’ beer. You are nothing special, but “Dirty Annie”, I love you anyway.

I beg your pardon sir, but Schaefer was the beer my father drank, and thus the first beer that I drank. Nectar of the gods, say I! (Does anyone remember the TV commercial in the 70s where they chipped a beer mug out of ice and poured the Schaefer in it?) Mmmm.. thirsty.

The glory days of cheap St. Louis beer are gone, but there are still some of the legendary cheap brands – Busch (aka Busch Bavarian), Stag and Griesedick Brothers (now a microbrew.)

If only they’d bring back 905.

What about [Genesee](http://www.geneseebeer.com/GeneseeBrewingCo/)? Or [Utica Club](http://www.saranac.com/familybrands/)? Can’t we get some… well… love isn’t quite the right word.

Some recognition, perhaps? (grinning)

(Yeah, yeah, I know they’ve both been “reimaged” but, I’ll always remember them as the beers my grandfather used to keep in his cellar.)
I have a soft spot for Genesee. Gennies or Genesee Cream Ale were what I drank most when I was under aged.

As far as Corona, I have felt for 20 years that it is piss water that people pretend is good for fear of being looked down upon. Mexicans laugh at gringos drinking that shit. Or as my brother once said, if it was a good beer you wouldn’t need the lime.

Pabst or Hamms, whilst drinking in Wyoming.

The thing about the crappy beers is that they had the greatest ads. Anybody remember the Hamm’s bear? Or Rainier’s quest for the elusive Sidehill Dodger? Or the Rainier motorcycle, for that matter? Good times.

Not to mention the malt liquors. Remember good old Billy Dee Williams shilling for Colt 45, saying, “Don’t let the smooth taste fool you?” I was only a kid at the time and had no idea what Colt tasted like, but now I’m going, “Slim chance of _that_, ya lying bastard.” 😛

Back in Boston years ago, the legendary Sunset Grill and Tap had a special: All beers from Cincinnati were a dollar that night.

We tried Hudy Gold. It had no flavor whatsoever. However, by the end of the evening, my roommate, a well-seasoned veteran of Boston College’s drinking scene, was fast asleep. The first and last time I have ever seen an alcoholic beverage do that to him.

I nearly forgot, just 15 years ago, there was a classic little dive called Ted’s on Rt 36 in Keansburg that still had Schlitz on tap for 35 cents. That’s right, throw down a fiver and you and a friend could drink for hours. Only problem was, it was Schlitz, I usually ended up leaving a $2 tip on a $3.00 bill.

I will freely admit that I drink Tecate on a regular basis. In the can. Just like Jimbo, my fellow Bruin. Tecate goes down awful easy on a hot summer day.

And I drink any beer offered to me in friendship and the spirit of hospitality and goodwill. 'Cause that’s my rule. Even if it’s Natty Ice.
