The Great Escape - a few questions and comments

I agree with CalMeacham to the extent that the Steve McQueen character was the focus of everything. To me, he became a huge PITA- his character was as grating and unrealistic as Donald Sutherland in Kellys Heroes.

However, I understand it was a movie and not a documentary.

In Brickhill’s book, IIRC, he describes such a celebration at which mass quantities of moonshine were consumed. I don’t remember which holiday they were celebrating, but it ended with people being thrown into the pool where the water for fighting fires was held.

He could have had a cameo as one of the bikers going to the party.* “Life’s pretty cheap for those types.”*

And you all know, of course, that Steve didn’t really do The Jump. The studio didn’t want to risk him busting his ass.

Brilliant! He would have been awesome as an unconventional conventionist.
