Minnesota officially started flying the new flag, at least at state government buildings, May 11th, which was Minnesota statehood day. I like the new flag and all, but seeing it against a blue sky makes me question my initial thoughts. It’s almost _too_ blue. I’m wishing for an additional color or stripe somewhere to offset all that blue. I don’t know why they got rid of them. I thought they looked better than the light blue field that replaced them. ---

That sounds to me like they’ve already chosen the new flag, and are just asking the public to rubber-stamp it. Whatever, it’s still one less blue bedspread with a crest. ---

Old versions: too-detailed state seal on blue background, optional Confederate visual dog-whistle New versions: wavy line if there’s a river, jagged line if mountains. Basic color pallet. Designed as if a freshman-level graphics art school assignment for corporation client, graded on anodyne value. ---

Sounds like they know what they want to see but also know they themselves could not do a _good_ design. And they don’t want an open contest where you just KNOW someone would propose a lobstah wearing LL Bean boots shooting lasers from its eyes. ---
