I think a good variations would be for the canton to have 14 stars representing that it was the 14th state. Yo can even make it orderly with rows 4/3/4/3 ---

I already proposed in a submission to that website that they adopt either the Green Mountain Boys flag (already the battle flag of the Vermont National Guard, despite its New Hampshire origin) or the Bennington flag as the new state flag.
