I hate these new winters. I believe this will be winter number 3 where it’s been really cold (and so far a good deal of snow).

I remember most of the 90s being mild with little snow. I miss those years.

LOL, I keep a navy surplus [immersion suit](http://www.westernsafety.com/hellyhansen2005/hh08pg52-85201.jpg) in the trunk, I could sleep nestled in a snow bank comfortably in the damned thing 😃 Our roomie got stuck in a drift the other morning for 3 hours. We don’t have AAA, and we tried calling every towing service that claimed to have 24 hour service and nobody was answering their phones, not even answering services … and the town hadn’t plowed the roads for og knows how long. MrAru tried to get to her in the car, but he was stopped by a massive drift across the road about a mile this side of her. The town finally plowed her out at 6 am, and she was _not_ happy, but she and her aging cat were fine in my seriously oversized pumpkin suit.

MrAru is considering just getting a freaking deuce and a half with a blade, our road is the last one in town plowed which is absurd because it is a major shortcut in the area. He was joking they would be baffled by the single lane plowed to the store and back …

And so, food for thought, what if all of these global temperatures had been reported on the other side of the temperature scale? I’ll tell you what, we’d have an influx of scientists and media extolling the absolute certainty that AGW was killing the planet and we would all be going to hell in a hand basket.

But, lo, instead we have merely another year (third in a row) of unreported global cooling.

I’m Facebook friends with one of our local weather guys and he’s giving us a 10-20% chance of Gulf-effect snow overnight tonight or tomorrow. This is ridiculous. I live in Florida for a _reason_, you know. There’s a freeze warning for all of central Florida – except my county, cause we’re surrounded by water on three sides – and the heat is on.

I should never have to have the heat on.

You should look up the definition of the word “global.”

Hint: It does not mean “within 200 miles of the snow globe I have on my desk.”

Huh? The planet is in fact cooling.

ETA: Posted somehow prematurely before I could line up my cites, but they’re out there and credible.

Survival suits are terrific, but you have to be careful that the person who eventually comes to your aid is not a bubba who might mistake you for an anal probing space alien and shoot you in self defence.

That, and perspiration is a bitch.

I just wish someone would grit or salt or whatever suburban footpaths.

You’d be surprised. I once did volunteer rebuilding with a guy from Colorado who was proud that he had stopped sweating…while doing outdoor construction work…in the Mississippi delta…in July. He thought it meant he was getting used to the heat.

Heh. And as if to illustrate the other side of that point, I ran outside this morning to crank the car in a T-shirt, barefooted. It went something like this with each step:
What - the - fuck - is - going - on - with - this - shit - this - is - not - happening - to - me - why - do - my - feet - hurt?

Yep, I’m a dumbass. Despite the fact that everyone talks about it, despite the warnings and the fact that the kitchen TV stays on the weather channel. Despite my earlier post, I went outside with no layers and no real weather protection because I somehow still believe that it just can’t be that cold here.

That was two hours ago. I’m almost warmed up now. 🙂

> So true! When I woke up Saturday morning the temperature was -26. My husband and I had to take a trip to the Twin Cities that day and on the way home we stopped at Dairy Queen for ice cream.

Ice cream is usually stored in freezers anywhere from 10 to 20 degrees F, and some of the soft serve at DQ is actually closer to 30, so you are definitely getting warmed up from that!

Even hard ice cream frozen at 10 degrees F is a 36-degree warm up! Enjoy! 😛

> Surprised there’s been no thread on this. Currently the temp has just now barely cleared 40 F-we (NE Florida) may see temps in the teens tonite-and the nice weather people recently said that it may get even colder. Definite possibility of snow this week if conditions are right.
>
> Usually when we get hit like this you Europeans are having heat waves-is that the case now?

European, English, checking in from Sale, Greater Manchester

Got up this morning and we already had 5" of snow, hasn’t stopped all day and we’re now up to about 8".

Manchester Airport and most others around the country have ground to a halt, there are no taxis or buses on the roads, the whole country is in stop mode.

Great joy, the weather forecast tells us that this isn’t the end of the sodding white fluffy stuff, not by a long chalk…we have another week or so to enjoy it

Bah, humbug and other choice expletives

Aren’t Dairy Queens closed in the winter? I grew up north of Minneapolis and the nearest one to me closed around October. Now I’m in Chicago and the DQ by me is closed, too.

I talked to my mom yesterday… It was -24F in my hometown, not counting windchill. Knowing that I can’t complain about Chicago weather.

My furnace went out and my well froze. This is really unusual for this part of Missouri. I’m from Chicago, so it’s not terribly cold for me outside, but my house just isn’t built for this.

Come on down! We visited Kentucky, and while in Walmart we were asked, “Hot enough for you?” It was around 85 degrees and 30% humidity. We had a good laugh. 😃
