Well, a hot dog is kinda like a McDonald’s hamburger. You can’t really blame kids for dipping them in grape jelly if that rocks their boat. I’m okay with ketchup. For me, it’s like living around left-handed people. Just let them be. On the other hand, sweet pickle relish is an abomination, and I’d happily have coleslaw on my dog over that. I’d rather eat the dirt under the grill than have a dog with relish on it. ---

Here in the South if you order a Regular hotdog, you will get mustard, slaw, and chili on it. If you order it All The Way, you get mustard, slaw, chili, and onions. I like mine All The Way. ---

Once in a while though I feel like going through the trouble of making pretzel dogs, in which case they are just baked. (Hebrew Nationals all the way!) ---

[/QUOTE] I agree. I like ketchup and onions on mine, but I’ll admit it gets me odd looks sometimes. I don’t drown it in ketchup; it just needs a little drizzle. If I have mustard, it’s gotta be spicy brown mustard, not that fake yellow stuff. I love a good chili-cheese-and-onions hot dog. ---

Run for your life, **LilGypsyGirl!** OTOH, actually being horrified in the face of an unusual food item goes against the NYC credo (that’s for small-town Midwesterners who still think sour cream is exotic). Don’t embarrass the City again. 😉 FWIW, I like spicy dogs with a decent skin, like Hebrew National (actually, most kosher dogs do the trick). Tn my mind, excessive condiment use indicates the presence of a bland, tasteless dog (although chili can fix this problem, in a pinch). Oscar Meyer? Feh. I’d rather eat an actual dog. ---

Meh, I’m okay with ketchup on other people’s hotdogs. Whatever it takes to help them choke down the rat lips. Me, well, I’m a cheap yellow mustard and sweet pickle relish person. No sense wasting \*good \* mustard on 'em, doncha know. Chili is okay, provided it’s cheap, canned, nasty ass Hormel-style chili. However, kraut belongs on Brats, coleslaw on Pulled Pork sandwiches, and putting either on a dog is sick and wrong. But then, I adore snails, oysters and cilantro, so perhaps I shouldn’t be quite so judgmental. I do thoroughly approve of ketchup and mustard, mixed to a Baltimore Oriole orange, into which one must dip the tip of one’s corn dog. ---

I will eat it with mustard as a single item. However, people who don’t like ketchup on them haven’t figured out the pickle matrix. If I have 2 dogs I will put mustard on one of them and mustard/ketchup/sweet pickle relish on the other. ---

I don’t care what you put on your hot dog, but if you’re from Chicago and put ketchup on it, I will have to question your upbringing. (I’m being somewhat facetious. My brother puts ketchup on his dogs, the misguided lad.) Anyhow, for me, while I’ll eat any dog, my preference is to all-beef, natural casing dogs. Part of the enjoyment of a good hot dog is the “snap” a properly cooked natural-casing dog produces. My favorites are: Chicago Red Hot, Vienna, Hebrew National, Best’s Kosher, Nathan’s. My standard condiments are mustard (plain ol’ yellow Plochmann’s is fine), relish, onions, and pickled sport peppers. I actually don’t like the stronger flavored mustards with a hot dog. It just seems out-of-place to me for some reason. I prefer the gourmet mustards with more robust sausages. When in Rome, I’ll have variations such as Coney dogs and dogs with kraut (although I cannot think of a time where I had ketchup on a dog, except once, when here in Chicago my “everything on it” order included mustard _and_ ketchup which, frankly, is heresy. “Everything on it” in Chicago never should include ketchup.), but my standard is the above. ---

[/QUOTE] It amazes me how many people are so concerned with what’s \*\*\*on \*\*\*their hot dog, but don’t give a crap what’s \*\*\*in \*\*\*it. I, personally, will put just about anything on my dog . . . including, sometimes, ketchup. But my favorite is grilled onions with a touch of BBQ sauce. Ok, I’ll say it: Some of you guys are just BIGOTS!!! 😉 ---

Watching someone put ketchup on a hotdog almost makes me sick to my stomach. That’s just vile. And here sits my hubby, putting ketchup on his dog. Me: Ewww, ketchup on a hotdog – that’s gross. Hubby: Deal with it. 😛 Me: 😛 right back atcha. ---
