I have received a bit of mail, but my VISA bill which would be due today is still AWOL - I just paid an estimate to maintain my sterling credit rating.
I don’t know exactly when and where my family came to Canada - my dad’s family was from England, and went back and forth for generations, apparently. My mom’s family (Mennonites from Holland/Russia) came over and settled in Saskatchewan (I think) some time around the 1900’s (I think).
It just occurred to me that the mail that I have received has been delivered by a private contractor (a rural route), whereas I have not received any mail at my business address, which is serviced by a Canada Post union employee.
…well…I thought it was snarky…but…you are a Leafs fan…:smack:
I think I’ve received one or two items of real mail, but mostly just spam this week. Don’t know if it’s being delivered by Canada Post or a random neighbourhood person. I am still waiting for those cheques, which pisses me off since I need to pay for a dragon boat race again soon!
I really wish I’d picked a different user name when I came here originally. I know I could probably change it, but then it would be too confusing. Anyway, I’m not really as vociferous a fan as most; but they’ve been my team since I started watching hockey. Dave Keon was the captain then!
I’ve been getting mail for the last week or so. Not as much as normal, and some things I’d expect to have by now are dreadfully late–most bills, for example, haven’t shown up yet. But the junk mail is as plentiful as ever.
As for the other question: circa 1840, Hastings County, Ontario.
My mom’s family settled and farmed around the Saskatoon area. Here’s a bit of trivia - when I got married, the marriage certificate wanted my mom’s birthplace, which turned out to be a latitude and longitude - she was born on the farm.
My dad’s family settled around Moose Jaw (I had a relative who was in the party that named Moose Jaw).
I just read Jack Layton’s statement that he’s stepping down temporarily as NDP leader to focus on his health - while his prostate cancer is responding well to treatment, he has a new, non-prostate cancer that requires treatment.
I just saw Mr. Layton on the news - he really isn’t looking good. I wish him a full and speedy recovery, too, but it isn’t looking likely at this point.
