1. Because Mom optimistically turned his old bedroom into a guest/sewing/exercise room while he was away at school.
2. Being in the basement allows you the illusion that you’re living separately, in your own place, without the reality.
3. It sounds more pathetic.

I literally lived in my mother’s basement for a while (early 20’s). It offered more privacy than my childhood bedroom, and I could come and go through the side door or watch tv late at night without waking her. But we shared the one kitchen and one bathroom upstairs. (When I moved out, she put a bathroom in downstairs. Bitch never liked me much. 😛 )
That is a very awesome picture. And, uh, who’s the yummy looking Joss Whedon lookalike in the front? Mwrrrrowrrr! :o

It is truly a shame you didn’t have this “do” in Las Vegas.
I would have paid a princely sum to follow you all to the local strip club, just to see the faces as you entered to get your lap dances…

In some areas. When I lived in Michigan as a child, my bedroom was the basement - a huge, faux wooden paneled room with its own bathroom and a wood-paneled bar area ( with the card suits cut into the front with blue and red lights behind the transparent panels. ). The laundry room was next door. 'twas awesome and to this date, ~28-30 years later, by far the largest bedroom I’ve ever had :D. It was virtually a studio apartment ( no kitchen, but it would have been easy enough to install and there was room for one ).
This was a not particularly expensive, single-level rental in the suburbs. Quite common thereabouts.

This was taken after spending much time at The Star Trek Experience. According to my sources, he still had that on when they got to the strip club. (for the record, that woman isn’t me, and she’s not a stripper either. 😃 )
