It’s run on TNT twice already, most recently on Sunday afternoon. It’s also available on both VHS and DVD, so you really don’t need to miss it at all.

Oh, and that should be **How The Grinch Stole Christmas**. “The Grinch Who Stole…” would be correct if you’re trying to differentiate between the Grinch who stole Thanksgiving & the Grinch who stole Groundhog Day.

“How The Grinch Stole Christmas” is perhaps my favorite animated Christmas story. The scene where he whistles for Max, who joyfully leaps into the sleigh raring to go, is priceless.
We used to have a miniature dachshund who behaved identically. She _loved_ to ride in the car and would quiver with anticipation if she thought we were going somewhere and it looked like she might go, too. She would leap into the car, resting her paws on the dash and wagging her whole body with anticipation whenever she was allowed to go.

Hmm, the net was curiously unhelpful on this topic. The only showing I could find is this Sunday, 12/19, at 3 p.m. on TNT. It should be on Cartoon Network in the near future, but perhaps they are waiting until closer to Xmas.

TRIVIA NOTE: The man who sang the Grinch song is Thurl Ravenscroft, who is better known as the voice of Tony the Tiger.
If Chuck Jones directed a better cartoon, I haven’t seen it.

I’ve never seen it. It’s never ever played in New Zealand. I know it’s Dr Seuss, and I know Ron Howard is directing Jim Carrey in the live action version. But that’s all I know.

Except when it isn’t. As I mentioned in a thread a few months back, for some onknown reason a videotape version of _HTGSC_ was released with Karloff’s narration edited out and a Walter Matthau narration replacing it. Don’t get me wrong, I like Matthau, but as far as I’m concerned Karloff nailed this one so there was no reason to replace his work.

HTGSC has already been on Cartoon Network at least once, but I know it’s going to be on again, I just can’t remember when. I personally like the TNT version of HTGSC, with the extra half-hour special on the making of HTGSC, hosted by Phil Hartman. Watching that version is where I found out, after a gozillion viewings of HTGSC, that Thurl Ravenscroft sang “You’re a Foul One, Mr. Grinch,” but he is listed nowhere in the credits.
Oh yeah–I haven’t seen anything better by Chuck Jones, either. And if you’re a Chuck Jones fan, turn on the Cartoon Network right now. They’re having a millennium special, called “Mil-Looney-Um.” Every Looney Toons cartoon, ever. It’s great. 🙂
