Just got a call - since no one is crabbing in my region, I’m to go to Annapolis and meet with another monitor. I’m not entirely sure what the point is, since I’ve done this twice before, but I’m being paid time and mileage, so no biggie. I’ll need to leave in about an hour and I probably won’t be back here till around 3 - that’s the bad part. But it’s a pretty day and, hey, Annapolis!! 😃 OK, technically Edgewater, but it’s just south of Annapolis. Maybe I’ll leave early and lunch enroute. ---

Blurf. Not feeling massively happy to be honest- though the quantity of butterflies around my allotment is really impressive, and that does help. The housemate has just announced that she’s moving out- and in with her new boyfriend, who I can’t stand. He’s apparently insisting she _has_ to move in in the next month or he’ll be so stressed out he’ll lose his new job, to which my immediate response is _RUN FOR THE HILLS!!_ This is leading to a little stress in the house. Especially as I was expecting her to be living here for at least another 6 months, as we’d previously agreed, and trying to find a house share which will a) take on someone unemployed, and b) allow them to bring pets is roughly as hard as hunting down a flying pig while blindfolded. I did just get an interview offer for wednesday, though I have a sneaking suspicion they’re trying to weasel me into care work (it’s for an admin position at a care company), and I’m not sure I’d be a good person to do that. We shall see. I’m also fighting the temptation to just buy a van or a houseboat and run away from everything. I should probably keep masquerading as a grown-up though really… Not that I’m doing a very good impression at the best of times. ---

I know I’ve been full of sad news these past months, but I do have things that make me happy. 1. My husband. He drives me crazy sometimes, but I love him for the goodness in his heart. 2. My kids. They are just awesome and I’m so lucky they turned out to be such wonderful adults. 3. My daughter is getting married in two weeks! She looks positively stunning in her wedding gown and her happiness just makes me smile. 4. My son constantly makes me crack up and smile. He has funny stories and just a loving, fun way about him. 5. My dogs. They drive me insane sometimes, but most of the time, they make me laugh and smile. We had a funny moment at the funeral last week. At the little reception afterwards, a very old co-worker of my MiL was talking to my son. I was standing next to him, contributing to the conversation here and there. Finally, she turned a little towards me, and then looks back at my son and said, “And, who is this? Is she your lovely girlfriend or bride?”. I about died laughing and my son turned about six shades of red and kind of choked a little. He told the lady I was his mother and she was just shocked. Poor kid, I’m sure he was a little freaked out about that. Well, I’m back at work. I’ll probably have to take off early sometime this week and start the business of dealing with Mom’s estate. **gotti,** I hope you feel better soon. ---

The sun is out. This in itself is enough to make me happy. Today’s big plans are cleaning the Stately Manor and making a list of the things I’ve been putting off the longest so I can get them done, _dammit_. I may or may not work on my story–I’ve just decided to redo the beginning from another perspective so I’m going to have to start over. Fortunately I already know everything that’s going to happen. I AM THE ALL-KNOWING STORY GODDESS! I also need to start assembling components to make a worm bin. I shall be indoors composting! Step one of this is shredding the stack of the Local Restaurant News Rag that I have sitting by my chair. It used to be the Local Liberal Rag until they decided not to piss off their advertisers. I love how a paper that’s supposedly devoted to local issues is completely ignoring the idiocy going on in Raleigh so they can cram in more puff pieces about whatever fly-by-night food truck is opening this week. :rolleyes: I only read it for the movie reviews at this point. Morning! It is a good amount cooler today than it was this weekend after a storm blew through last night. That makes me happy. We got a lot accomplished over the weekend in the house including uprooting the two hated small trees/shrubs that shed red leaves all the damn time and have berries that will stain the concrete and will grow to 40 ft tall when they are 3 feet from the front of the house in the front garden and planting two new ones. I don’t like my job but I can do it and do it well so for right now through the end of the I am here before I start looking elsewhere. Life is pretty damn good today ---

Home from feeding the doggies. I stayed a while and watched TV with them so they aren’t cooped up in their kennels 22 hours a day I see my mother and her bf are back from the ocean, they aren’t here but her car is gone so they must have gotten back and went out again. Debating what to do now, I feel a little sleepy so maybe a nap, I’m hungry so maybe some lunch, my room is a mess so maybe a little cleaning, I need money so maybe a little irk. I think a short nap first just because my eyes don’t want to stay open. ---

We have hummingbirds! I noticed one about a week ago, and thought about putting out a feeder, but I didn’t have to.They’re visiting our roses, honey suckle and day lilies. I’ll try to get one up when the day lilies are all spent. ---

The Other Shoe and I went to the [Taste of Dallas festival](http://www.tasteofdallas.org/)yesterday. It was very lightly drizzling & the temps were so nice and cool … what a change from the usual heat & drought that is normal for this area in July. We stuffed ourselves silly on various nummy foods and generally had a nice time. Oh, and we got to spend some time with a friend we don’t see very often on Saturday. 🙂 It was a good weekend. House is a mess but … oh well! Quality time with friends & family is ever so much more important. Oh, and we’re supposed to keep getting a nice, steady, gentle soaking rain for a while – this is extraordinarily good news for this area, I’m tellin’ you. ---

I have utmost faith in my surgeon’s abilities and judgement, and I’m sure my experiences are not unique, but they are my experiences, and they’re all new to me. I did get some reassurance about the clunks and thunks I’ve been feeling from the doc’s office - muscles and ligaments get moved in the procedure, and they’re just expressing their displeasure, and probably will for a few more weeks. ---

My furlough day was Friday and will be every Friday until the end of September. Where I work, people are taking different furlough days so as not to impact patient care as much. It will still be affected, but nothing can be done about that. The installation I work on has mandated that it’s employees (FORSCOM/IMCOM) will take Fridays as furlough days. In essence, the largest military installation on this coast is shuttered one day a week. My command leases space, and we have to do our furloughs as I wrote above. The day is dragging. I have plenty to do, but am not fully focused on what needs to be done. ---

Hmm. Good things. Let’s see. We’ve gotten nearly all the trash out from the big re-siding of the house. And the 18th is Big Trash Day, so anything else can go to the curb then. The seats are back in the van. A load of stuff (not construction related) went to Goodwill. Two old windows went to Habitat for Humanity. The back yard is nearly clear. Extra food (from feeding family and friends who came to help) has been nearly all eaten or re-distributed. The tool-prep table and extra wallboard have left the kitchen, so I can open all of the cupboards again. There’s still some wallboarding to do around the new windows and to patch the holes in the walls from replacing all of the wiring two years ago. But those things aren’t in the way. It’s a relief to have everything out of the way. Oh, yeah. And my middle son and his wife are moving to Phoenix, which is much closer to Stockton than anywhere in Minnesota is. He’ll be much easier to visit. ---
