My local grocery store never has the newest knitting magazines. But they’ve got [The Dairy Goat Journal](http://www.dairygoatjournal.com/), without fail.

I remember reading Heeb, a very snarky secular Jewish magazine, and an article on gay Jews. They mentioned there is a zine dedicated to the Jewish transgender community. Now that’s specialized.

Thanks for the heads up! [Quench](http://quenchzine.blogspot.com/)is more LGBT than transgender, but still that’s a pretty narrow cohort.

I once bought a bearclaw from a vending machine at work and noticed that it had a big ribbon on the packaging stating that it had won “Vending Pastry of the Year” from some vending machine trade magazine. Sure enough, I looked it up and it existed.

I used to work for a construction company and they had a huge array of trade magazines in the bathroom, including one devoted solely to demolition.

Not a magazine or journal, but a friend of mine just published a book about gay and lesbian ghosts. If you search for “gay ghost hunting” on Google, there’s a bunch of groups and Web sites devoted to it.

Never thought of that as a niche market, but there you go.

There’s a BBC panel game called “Have I Got News For You” which often features a “guest publication”, from which amusing headlines are taken for the teams to complete.

Highlights include:

International Car Park Design
Water and Effluent Treatment News
Hot Dip Galvanising Magazine
Potato Abstracts
Modern Ferret Magazine
American Taxidermist
Egg Cup World

Full list here - all genuine publications 🙂

When I was in high school drama, we got to use the cafeteria lounge as a green room. I was always so excited to read the copies of school cafeteria trade journals.

Also, when I was in high school I worked for a newspaper who pretty much only existed to list job openings with the State of California.

Their main market seemed to be state offices who felt like they had to have copies of these things, the occasional go-getter looking for a promotion, and average joes looking to get on the government work bandwagon.

Very strange company

I’m a periodicals librarian, so I know 'em all. We don’t get any of the really weird ones, but we get your Bassmaster, we get your American City and County (for those of you who are in local government) or your County Focus, just for South Carolina county… people. Want Animal Welfare Institute Quarterly? Let me show you it. We have at least three different Catholic magazines just off the top of my head. We have exactly two synagogues in town and there’s a local Jewish newspaper for 'em. We got magazines on every disability you can think of - we got yer autism, we got yer hearing loss, we got yer differently abled children. We have your arthritis, too. Dear god do we have your antiques and your collectables - stamps, coins, what have you. We have QST for your ham radio needs. How about some Ex-POW Bulletin? No? Military Spouse, then? Government Technology, maybe?

We have a quarterly magazine about Lithuanian people. Seriously.

We go Inside Kung Fu AND Inside Smithsonian Research. Can you say the same?

My favorite? Garden and Gun.

“[Bassmaster](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_Anglers_Sportsman_Society)” sounds niche but it’s actually a pretty huge outdoor and fishing magazine and organization with over half a million members.

Why? they conserve wetlands, so ducks can land on them, so they can shoot them.
