> There is no fucking stranger danger, and calling the cop like that technically is illegal and is certainly is a waste of taxes and the cop valuable time.

You’re preaching to the choir. But that won’t change the fact that there young mothers out there that absolutely would call the police on a man watching children in the park, waste of tax dollars or not. That’s trouble I don’t need, so I wouldn’t do it. But if you would rather be right than be free, knock yourself out.

Around here if you take pictures of your own kid at the pool, they immediately force you to sign a form.

> Any man watching toddlers, behind a fence or not, will sooner or later get the cops called on him. It’s one of those things he just shouldn’t do, even if he gets innocent amusement from it. Stranger Danger in how adults apply it.

I wouldn’t ever hang out in a toddler’s park, but the “Stranger Danger” comment got me thinking.

When I was a soph at my college, my girlfriend called me up one Friday night and said to bring a six-pack over. I then needed to go to the local campus ATM and then the off-campus liquor store.

There was a coed getting money out of the ATM and I had to wait. It turns out she was walking about fifty yards in front of me the whole way to the liquor store just off campus–this was a distance of about a mile. As I was walking behind her and she just happened to be going the same way I was, I noticed she started looking over her shoulder at me with increasing frequency.

I could tell she was getting a little freaked out at the guy (me) who was following her from the ATM across campus, but I think in reality, nobody was going to do anything to her with me following along the path behind her. She was freaked out by me but arguably safer. I was just going about my business, so I didn’t see any reason to change my course. Although, at the edge of campus, I did make a point of going into the other liquor than she went into.

I’m sure she told her friends about the harrowing story of being stalked from the ATM, but in reality, I had my own plans with my girlfriend and that just happened to coincide with part of her route that night.

Back to the OP, I walk to and from work and go by two different kid’s playgrounds. If I noticed some obvious creep hanging out, I’d at least mention it to the moms. Hanging out as an adult in the kiddie pool while the real pool is available is not cool, to say the very least.
