> I thought Brian Cox played guys who are the villains in movies about dudes with lost memories, like X2 and Bourne Identity/Supremacy.

> Didn’t he do one more like this?

He was in _The Long Kiss Goodnight_, about a dudette with lost memories.

He was Hannibal Lecter in _Manhunter_, a villain who teased a cop with memories he’d like to lose.

I like Martin Freeman very much and agree he could make an excellent Bilbo. If not him, I’d suggest James McAvoy, who was excellent in _Atonement, Becoming Jane_ and _The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe_, and who also has the look of an estimable Hobbit, I think: [James McAvoy - Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_McAvoy)

I could easily see Brian Cox as a Dwarf - perhaps Thorin himself.

In addition to a cameo by Legolas in his father King Thranduil’s hall, I’d like to see a young (age 9 or 10, I think) Aragorn, then known as Estel, in Rivendell. Perhaps he and Bilbo could have a word or two in the library.

The _Plain Dealer_ of Cleveland carried a wire-service story a few months ago that both Andy Serkis (Gollum) and Hugo Weaving (Elrond) had been confirmed as returning for _The Hobbit_. Guess not…?

> Yes, by the end of the story Bilbo was a badass, but you have to bear in mind that he was a reluctant badass; Bilbo didn’t plan to go on the adventure with Gandalf and the dwarves. Gandalf showed up at Bilbo’s house with a dozen dwarves, and hospitality demanded that Bilbo feed them. He had no plans to go adventuring with a party of militant dwarves.

True, I just like Bilbo better than Frodo. 😉

> Now of course everyone knows Brian Cox as the voice of the Elder Ood.

That was Brian Cox!? Wow I had no idea! I’ll listen again for him when it’s replayed on Saturday.

Wouldn’t I like to hear the voice of Hugh Laurie in this film!

But which part? Troll’s voice, or perhaps voice of Smaug.
