I bit the bullet and tried to find what was on the internet about that office door on the gas chamber at Auschwitz. I’ll admit, it looks odd and out of place. According to the pictures I saw, there’s a diagram outside the building at Auschwitz that shows the layout originally, and the reconstructed layout… there were some changes, and this fact is clearly not being kept secret because they lay it out for all visitors on a board outside the building. But back to this door… it does look out of place. My first thought is, “Hmm, someone must have switched the door out at some point. Or maybe the room wasn’t laid out like they thought. Or maybe this was being converted to an office when the Russians invaded.” Or, maybe they got it all wrong, and that’s actually not a gas chamber, and it just really looks like one and they goofed, and the other gas chambers at Auschwitz are all torn down. What really gets me is the thought that this massive organized conspiracy that can somehow convince the entire world that millions of dead people aren’t really dead CAN’T REPLACE A GODDAMN DOOR. Seriously, it’d be like $200 to get an antique solid oak door and bolt it up. They could then come out and say “Yeah, here’s the real door, it was in storage for a while.” They could have done this DECADES ago and nobody would have been the wiser. But no, massive global conspiracy, too dumb to notice that door. That’s all these deniers see. It seems to be a common element in whackjob conspiracies, granting the conspirators fantastical powers, and at the same time attributing the most boneheaded gaffes to them. ---

For some reason we’ve had quite the influx of Conspiracy Theory waving nutjobs on this board recently. It speaks volumes about the mental states of the people involved, because I can’t imagine why they’d come to a board boasting about “Fighting Ignorance since 1973” and expect support for complete bullshit. Anyway, I look forward to the “Underground Alien Bases secretly feeding on America’s homeless and abducted children” thread. Because of course, there are thousands and thousands of kids who go missing each year, and we can’t prove that they weren’t abducted in order to feed our Secret Alien Masters. Oh sorry, this isn’t the Pit and I shouldn’t be questioning their sanity. Even if it does seem a little nuts. ---

Okay. I read three hundred and freakin’ four posts in an attempt to learn something about what goes on inside the mind of a Holocaust-denier. And I really didn’t learn anything. Allen, correct me if I’m wrong, but you seem to be saying that because a couple of replacement doors on 60-year-old gas chambers have inappropriate windows and don’t seal well, that six million people didn’t die. Does that pretty well sum things up? I’m not a Jew; I’m not a Zionist; I’m not an apologist for any particular race or religion. I just can’t fathom doubting the massive, gigantic stacks of evidence that the Nazis killed millions of people, simply because a replacement door doesn’t fit well. I suppose I’ll just chime in and join the crowd that’s asking, where the heck did those people go? _ETA: Make that three hundred and freakin’ nine posts. I don’t think I’m up to the challenge of coming up with an objection that will be remotely as harebrained as your lightweight argument. I think the Sprinkler Rainbow Conspiracy lady is closer to producing a convincing proof than you are. Your evidence has been weighed in the balance and found wanting. OK, I did about 15 minutes of Googling and I think I have the answer to our guests objections to the gas chamber door. [/QUOTE] Some ignorance simply can’t be fought. You can’t make someone look at the facts and absorb them. If someone wants to be militantly ignorant then that’s how they will be, no matter how much information that contradicts their world view you toss their way. Simply put, anyone who still thinks the Holocaust is a hoax in this day and age is militantly ignorant and chooses to deny the mountains of evidence against their world view in favor of maintaining a fantasy. C’est la vie. I’m just awaiting the day when the Loose Change guys show back up with another new and important video for us all to watch… -XT ---

As I told the OP five or so pages ago, this is supposed to be Great Debates, not a place to throw down urls and run away. It has become an _attactive nuisance_ that is liable to lure good posters to do bad things and, since the OP will never be persuaded and chooses to not attempt to persuade anyone else, the thread is pointless. To avoid having to hand out Warnings to frustrated posters as this circles the drain, I am closing it.
