The Horror of Cupcakes--How Often Do You Indulge?

I’ve read this on the website. Does it really make that much of a difference? I haven’t had the opportunity to store any yet. Should I really make an effort not to refrigerate if I need to store overnight?

Storing them overnight is no big deal, in my experience, especially if you’ve got a decent airtight container. It’s certainly preferable to putting them in the fridge.

Only put them in the fridge as a last resort, if they’re likely to go stale before you eat them.

I’m not a fan of cupcakes so I rarely indulge in them. Cake in general isn’t on my list. I’m a much bigger fan of cookies and chocolate.

Will do. And if I’m venturing below 14th street (gasp!), I’ll have to check out Magnolia bakery. Do you prefer it to Buttercup, or are they both about the same?

I’ve never actually been to Buttercup, although friends of mine who’ve tried both say that they’re both about equally good.

If that’s true, then you probably shouldn’t bother about making the trek downtown to go to Magnolia, because i believe that Magnolia is better known among the tourist crowd than Buttercup, and the lines can be very long. They only let a certain number of people in the store at a time, and the line can snake around the corner during peak times. The longest i’ve ever waited was about 30-40 minutes, and i felt faintly ridiculous standing in line that long to buy a simple concoction of flour, butter and sugar.

Anyone here from Toronto?

This place makes the best cupcakes I’ve ever had:

Not big, not fancy, doesn’t have a million exotic kinds of cupcakes - simply the best tasting chocolate cupcakes around.

It requires serious self-control not to buy them often.

See, now I’m craving a cupcake. Figures.

My niece’s school actually has a ban against cupcakes. But not all cupcakes. No…only homemade cupcakes. Yes…homemade baked goods for your child’s class are not allowed. Only sealed, store bought cupcakes. How sad is that? Not only because there’s such a fear of a parent putting something bad in the food for children, but also because homemade cupcakes are at least SOMEWHAT healthier than store bought loaded with god knows what.

When I was in Yellowstone a couple months ago, I had a sudden craving for Hostess Snowballs. It didn’t go away, either. Even though it’d been years since I’d had one, suddenly these little packages of chemical sludge seem really good to me. I didn’t know I was part of a fad, though. I’m hoping I get over it.

For heaven’s sake, they’re not sacrifing puppies to Shub-Nigguarath. They’re celebrating a pal’s birthday with a tasty treat. A cupcake once every couple of weeks won’t hurt you. (Sending your kid off to school with Mountain Dew and Little Debbies everyday is a different story for a different thread.)
