Keep ya head up Vs. Yes we can Not seeing the big discrepency. The other day I was in Kohl’s and they had a Chuck Liddell shirt right next to a Sesame Street shirt, but I didn’t start a thread about it. ---

I’m still wondering how someone who comes up with a bizarre acronym for Thug Life is somehow supposed to be poetic (perhaps the Bob Dylan of his generation), even deep. ---

[/QUOTE] Don’t forget Tupac was only 24 when he died and probably still a teenager when he got that tattoo. And it was a backronym that he came up with later. ---

So is there any other reason I should be impressed? I googled his lyrics and I’m really not blown away by the poetry of “Ha, ha for the bitches who think it’s all 'bout u.” ---

He was an extremely prolific writer so googling a few lyrics will not give you an accurate representation of what he was all about. However, you weren’t a teenager at any time in the '90s you’re probably just not going to get it (although my dad, b.1955 likes some Tupac.) ---

Tupac seemed to have that rare combination of street smarts and book smarts. He was no Shakespeare, but for a high school drop out that was shuffled from home to home growing up, I think he was pretty damn intelligent. If you don’t like his music or lyrics that’s fine, but it has nothing to do with being “too white for it.” ---

A bit off topic, some time shortly after Tupac was killed, my family and I had just eaten at a small diner. While paying the bill, my step daughter picked up what looked like a salt shaker full of toothpicks. It had only one hole in the top, you turned it over and a toothpick came out. I commented about the toothpick shaker and than I hadn’t seen one in a while. A young man standing nearby apparently did not hear everything that was said and told me that Tupac’s last name was pronouned Sha-kur, not shaker. Since then our family refers to the rap singer as Toothpick Shaker. ---

I work at Walmart, where, granted, most of the cheap ($4.00) t-shirts are printed in China, but we still have to wonder. In the women’s department, a tee w/the logo “free ride…free…proud.” Not what I’d want for my teenage daughter. I saw a good tee in the men’s department, though.
