The how are the Heat doing thread

9-8; .529; 43-win pace; 1-4 against upper-level teams (Boston, Orlando, Dallas); and only 7-3 at home.

They are holding player-only meetings and criticizing the coach.

I don’t know, guys, maybe you’re just not as good as you obviously think you are. It takes a deep team to win consistently and your management imploded the team to bring you three together. Quite a drop-off after the top three.

I don’t know about “imploded”; they were 47 and 35 last year, and while that was enough for the fifth seed, it was also only good enough for third in the division.

It was pretty obvious that only the top four had any chance of winning the conference, especially considering it took a 9-1 finish to get them that fifth seed.

They’re third in the division again right now, and if the season ended tomorrow they’d be the fourth seed. The missing team ranked ahead of them is… Cleveland.

I think it’s a good bet that something will be thrown onto the court. Whether it’s more than that, I don’t know, probably depends on how the game turns out.

If it’s a blowout win by Miami, the Cleveland fans are going to get itchy and things will fly. If it’s a close enough game or if the Cavs are winning, I think the fans will feed off that intensity and not throw anything.
It seems now that Lebron’s bad influence is having it’s effect on Wade too, as he just kind of threw his coach under the bus, calling him “not my guy, but he’s my coach”. I’m surprised at the speed in which Lebron turned Wade into a disloyal coach-killer.

I’m not sure of a way to bump this thread without being a dick about it or seeming like I’m reveling in the Heat’s recent success, because I’m a lukewarm Sixers fan and really don’t care that much either way what happens in the NBA.

But don’t you guys think they might be OK after all?

This is why making sweeping pronouncements 25% of the way into a season is a bad idea.

If a football team were 2-2 after 4 games instead of 4-0 or 3-1, would people freak out? What about if a baseball team were 20-20?

Well, two years ago, when Mark Texeira started slowly(as he often does) and CC Sabathia wasn’t setting the league on fire, MANY fans and reporters and TV/radio commentators were calling the Yankees’ season a bust. As it turned out, they won the World Series.

Are the Heat likely to follow suit and go all the way? I suspect not, because there are better teams out there, and the Heat have some flaws that will make them very vulnerable at playoff time (who’s going to cover Dwight Howard, when it really matters?).

But there’s no doubt that MANY media types were eager to dismiss the Heat as anunredeemable flop after just a few weeks, and that was silly. The Heat are very good and were bound to tsrat playing well before long.

And I think we can safely say they are not going under .500 either.

Standing by my post:

-will learn to play together
-good regular season record
-first round win (perhaps second, depends on seeding)
-flawed and will lose to boston or perhaps even chicago or orlando. They are also overmatched by LAL, Spurs, mavs, and jazz.
-i will add that if a hard cap is imposed than they are in great shape.

Pretty sure thats more or less what i said before.

I simply want them to do bad. It was early, but I was hoping the trend would hold up. I’m disappointed that it hasn’t, and disappointed that my Lakers haven’t been doing as well as I would like :frowning:

This thread was much more fun when the Heat were losing, says the bitter and jealous Warriors fan…
