I believe the purple pants can be justified - because he only turns into the Hulk once during the movie, and stays transformed for a goodly chunk of it. It’s not a constant back and forth.

I think. I don’t really know, but that’s what I heard once.

Thank you, **GuanoLad**. That makes me feel a little better.

Although it would kind of be a shame if we only saw one transformation scene…hmm, maybe there’s a bit where the Army is like, “Here, Dr. Banner, you’ll need to wear this gamma-resistant coverall; sorry we only had purple in your size.” And then we’ve only seen bits from that one sequence in the trailers. That would be OK.

I just seem to recall a bit from the later comics that explained that whenever Bruce transformed, the radiation automatically dyed his pants purple, or something. That would be really stupid.

I read the comics, and I gotta go with a larger hulk. Elephants couldn’t be juggled by ordinary guys like you or me or Lou Ferrigno, it would have to be someone especially large.

As for Banner’s alt. lifestyle…
When the TV show started, the Hulk’s name was changed to David because the TV execs thought that Bruce was stereotypically homosexual. Cite? An old issue of Wizard. Look it up yourself. 🙂

Well, I was actually thinking more along the lines of him secretly dressing up like Barney, or one of the Teletubbies or something.

Although I guess there could be some crossover there. All’s I’m saying is, I don’t wanna know about it.

Actually the reason they changed his name was because Bruce was associated with Bruce Lee who was Asian and Asians weren’t extremely popular in america so soon after the end of the Vietnam war. I have read this in several different places over the years.

I have never heard the homosexual thing before.

Im sitting here thinking about it and wasn’t his name in the comic books actually Robert Bruce Banner? And the TV show David Bruce Banner? In the comic he went by his middle name.

Stink is correct: his full name is “Robert Bruce Banner,” but traditionally he’s always gone by “Bruce.” (Chalk it up to his mother always calling him that.)

On the purple pants issue, I recall Doc Samson (the Hulk’s psychiatrist…YES, the Hulk has a psychiatrist) mentioning that Banner bought purple pants on a cue from Albert Einstein, who believed that a man should own 20 of the same suit so he wouldn’t have to think about what to wear in the morning. Why he specifically wanted purple, I forget.

(This did humorously come up in a mid-80’s Hulk comic during the “Mr. Fixit” years. Banner goes to a clothing store and finds rack after rack of purple slacks on sale. “They’re made from a remarkable new stretching fabric” the clerk points out, “but the knees have a little less give.”

yeah, the Hulk definitely “sweats” radiation. It makes him immune to biological weapons, since the radiation is powerful enough to kill any organism that makes contact with his skin.

so if that “dyes” his pants, it’s at least consistent with what we know of the creature.
