The danger was all the birds flying around, and the fear that they’d poop on your test booklet. ---

I just wanted to pop in and say that I love _some_ lawyers. And I have a particular affection for those ex-lawyers who become judges and _don’t_ regale everyone in the courtroom with their dreadful attempts at humour. ---

One of my final law exams was conducted in a hall that had been invaded by [bogon moths.](http://mulubinba.typepad.com/mulubinba_moments/Bogong.JPG) On another note, I’ve noticed that those who vociferously criticise lawyers tend to shut up when they find themselves a) in a police cell b) unfairly dismissed/owed backpay c) wanting legal redress for the wrong someone has done to them. There are good and bad eggs in every profession. And lawyers are a necessary corollary of society - they aren’t the second-oldest profession for nothing. 😉 ---

Good luck to all you soon to be lawyers. Look, every profession has its good and bad practicioners. Lawyers are no exception. I have a good one. The man falls all over himself helping me understand all kinds of legal stuff when I need him to. For that I am extremely grateful. Here’s what I figured out a long time ago. I need a good lawyer, a good doctor, a good accountant, a good real estate agent and a good car dealer. Everything else I can fill in as I go along in life. It’s worked so far. So, good luck Big Bad Voodoo Lou, anu-la1979, villa and anybody else to take the Bar Exam! Pass it and get out there and go to work. I wanna retire in about 12 more years and I need the support. 😃 ---

I took the Georgia Bar in 1987 ( :eek: , damn, I’m old!) and I still remember how nervous I was. I had a booty-call relationship with one of my classmates, and we, ahem, worked off a little tension on the Tuesday night between test days. I highly recommend that method of relaxation, I slept quite well and passed the Bar to boot! ---

You know, maybe I’m a bit confused. See I thought most lawyers, especially the ones who are usually held up in examples of ‘lawyers are evil’ situations, worked for the clients who’d gone out and hired them. Even ‘ambulance chasers’ can’t represent someone who doesn’t retain their services. There’d be precious few lawyers if Joe Q. Public stopped creating a need for them\*\* jrfranchi\*\*. Me, I’ll happily let somebody who knows what they’re doing guide me through the system. I don’t have time to learn to do everything I’m going to need in this life. Saying we ought to get rid of lawyers is akin to saying get rid of surgeons. Most people are not equipped to practice law any more than they’re ready to attempt self-surgery. Laws aren’t ever going to get simple enough, no matter what you’d prefer, that we’ll be able to dispense with lawyers. Good luck to those who need it. And don’t forget to eat properly! ---

Besides, wishing for “simple laws” would essentially be to wish for the obliteration of hundreds of years of common law precedent dealing with a myriad of complex issues. Being a lawyer is really difficult. I applaud anyone willing to enter the profession. And yes, I am a lawyer. ---
