No, MAGA, the right wing, and Trump made deportations a political flashpoint for political reasons. All of that, and the death of Renee Good is on them
I’m not as inclined to absolve the shooter as @PhillyGuy is, but he’s right that this goes to the very top. Trump and Noem deliberately created the environment where something like this was inevitable.
This is absurd. What are the possible implications? The license plate number is the first thing an officer looks at when pulling a car over. It allows them to check if a vehicle is stolen or the owner is wanted. Which is what would have been done had she simple followed instructions.
Under some circumstances, in basketball, you can ‘draw the foul’ and then shoot:
Drawing a foul in basketball means an offensive player creates contact with a defender, leading the defender to commit a foul, often by initiating contact with their body (shoulder, legs) while driving or shooting to get free throws, exploit weak defense, and put opponents in foul trouble
Law enforcement isn’t basketball, though. Ross didn’t get to ‘draw the foul’ (while videotaping it), and then shoot. It is unambiguously and inarguably (despite your best efforts) against DoJ policy.
If someone thinks killing someone else is an acceptable response to being stupid, well…that is stupid, considering that a certain Trump official is insisting that Venezuela is an island that we have successfully blockaded.
Whether or not you view the instructions as ‘simple’ has no bearing whatsoever on the issue of whether or not those instructions properly carried the force of law.
A person being armed does not inherently constitute legal authority. It’s very, very likely that ICE had no authority to attempt to detain Ms. Good:
It’s hard to make the argument that your idea is smarter than the ICE officer getting out of the way – an action that would have required a single step.
Though, to be fair, his use of the cell phone to videotape the encounter may have distracted him materially.
ETA: in your eyes, Ms. Good did something stupid. How do you rate ‘ill-advised’ when compared to something being inarguably and unambiguously against the LEO’s employer’s policies?
