A point Josh Marshall from Talking Points Memo (my favorite political news site, highly recommended) makes over and over again is that all power is unitary. That means that if you damage someone’s power in one place, you’re damaging it everywhere. This “pullout” of Bovino and at least some agents may not be substantively a big deal (or maybe it will be), but symbolically it’s huge, IMO - it’s another TACO moment. It’s Trump backing down because of the heat of the aftermath of the most recent ICE murder. And it’s a victory for the citizens of Minneapolis, which will do amazing things for the morale of the next targets of Trump’s attempted tyranny. ---

Not to belittle Li’l Oberscheißeführer Bovino further, but his demotion proves he really came up short in Trump’s eyes. Small victory. Very tiny but I’m glad his fascist jacket (size: Nazi Youth) is finally being hung up on the itty-bitty hook he got it down from. ---

I don’t have high hopes that this is actually a win. What I see is, Noem and Bovino have failed to provoke an insurrection and now someone else gets a turn. Alex Pretti’s murder was premeditated by an administratiok that wanted to provoke an armed conflict. If it had, even the fence sitters who are troubled by the murder would have said “I don’t think the murder was right but this reaction is unwarranted.” As it played out, they got bad press and no armed conflict, so mission failed for the Nazis in charge. ---
