There are also many depressing instances of hatred, bigotry and outright violence (in the U.S. and abroad) involving young people who can’t abide the fact that there are people who look and think differently from them. They are Angry, and that evidently trumps any obligation to speak and act decently. Before concluding that young folks are The Future Of The Wor-ulld (literally true), we should ponder whether it’s necessarily going to be that rosy a future. ---

Seriously, why does it bother you? Why does it bother you that some black man whom you don’t know and probably never will is so fucking angry at what white people have done - not angry at you specifically but you as a member of white America collectively - that he acts like an asshole toward white people and generally has a low opinion of white America. If I were black, I would have a low opinion of white America. And the fact that some whites crossed racial lines and voted for Barack Obama or liked Michael Jordan doing Gatorade commercials wouldn’t mean shit to me. I would want a commitment to a society based on the ideals of racial justice, economic and social equality, not empty fucking platitudes and viral Instagram memes. Most of us reading and ranting on this thread would too but don’t have the self-awareness or the integrity to admit it because you all have never been in the position of having your status threatened because of your race. Nobody is saying you have to like what Huey writes. I don’t always care for it either, but I at least think I can understand it. Not saying I excuse it, but I understand. Isn’t that what fighting ignorance is about? Trying to understand? Look, if Huey were like gratuitously engaging in gay bashing or being antisemitic or being anti-Latino or anti-Asian, I’d have more of a problem. But it’s pretty clear that Huey’s beef is with the majority of this country that has a documented history of abusing everyone else and, even to this day, continues to minimize the impact. Your claims that Huey is “racist” are laughable because you clearly don’t know what the hell real racism is. ---
