Someone actually claims, proudly, to get his most credible political and personal insights from Runners’ World ? A monthly magazine about how to put one foot in front of the other foot?
Maybe that person just enjoys being ridiculed on this board. At least, I hope that’s all it is.
Oh, in fairness, regarding the Iraqi troops massed on the Saudi border, it’s worth remembering that they did, in fact, invade SA some time into the war. A force based in Kuwait headed toward the oil fields in northeast SA, and briefly held Khafji, before being repelled. Even before that, it was a pretty reasonable supposition that Saddam’s strategy, with Kuwait in hand, might well be to become the monopolist of the Gulf oil fields.
But Bush Sr. was, in fact, lying at the time, and in an arrogant way that said he thought nobody would bother to check, easy as it was. He seems to be doing pretty much the same now, through his marionette of a son. (Hey, guys, if that construction site worries you, just go ahead and bomb it, okay? Nobody here would mind a bit).
I’m sure I’m not the only one here who can draw parallels to the Tonkin Gulf Resolution.
Clearly, Xeno, you are not from Texas, where we know our second cousins very well indeed. 'Nuff sed.
A blatant falsehood, Xeno! I am compelled by my relentless sense of honesty and fair play to castigate you for this shameless misrepesentation!
We know about Scylla’s employment, his residence, his recreational proclivities, his sexual preferences, his sexual fantasies, the state of his testicles, his wife, his child, his prospective child, his vehicles, his preferred macho-type fantasy (pirate), his donut preferences, his political persuasions, his…
But it brings up an interesting point. You know me far better, but the truth is you don’t know me at all.
If admittedly you know me better than Dubya, and you don’t know me at all, then you don’t know Dubya either.
The facts though do not lend themselves to mediocrity as an apt describer of our Pres. You may not like him. You may disagree with him, but in any sort of quantifiable sense he is not mediocre.
Elvis (Who doesn’t seem to have checked the articles in the link)
Yes, of course you’re right. That’s all there is to it. And, playing a piano is just about tapping keys, and sex and love is just about friction and lubrication.
This kind of irks me, as it’s a prime example of an argument founded upon ignorance.
Read the magazing, and run a marathon and either you will think differently, or else yo will have proven yourself immune from insight.
While you are all swell guys, didn’t we just due the Elucidator, Xeno, Elvis, Tejota vs. Scylla show, where our special topic was Bush?
That’s an arguable point of view, certainly (any sort of quantifiable sense?!), but this thread isn’t about Bush’s mediocrity, it’s about the honesty of Bush’s argument, to which issue I believe elucidator’s character sketch of Mr. Bush as lacking nuance was offered as a background observation, rather than as evidentiary information. Counter opinions are certainly just as valid, but the suggestion that there’s no basis for opinion was unfounded.
Nonetheless, given time, patience, I firmly believe that he could rise to mediocrity.
Scylla, paladin of the privileged, tireless defender of the uptrodden, singlehandedly defends the gates of the Shining Gated Community on the Hill from the ravening horde of barbarians (Goths, Vandals, hippies, not at all the right sort).
Beset, beleagured, outnumbered, yet he struggles manfully on, pausing only occaisionally to deliver an insight into the relative tightness of his testicles to an audience rapt, admiring, and clamoring for more!
Scylla, if you want to refer to something specific, you have to provide a specific link. A magazine’s main page doesn’t do it.
If there really was a thoughtful, insightful essay on your hero’s flawless personal characteristics and leadership there, then you know better than not to expect a demand for a cite, along with a brief teaser describing it. Or you can let your carefully-crafted persona here stand, warts and all; your choice.
